If you go right into episode 6 of Wednesday season 2 following episode 5, odds are you’ll quickly be doing a double-take. This is because the episode begins with the most unexpected of montages, one which finds Wednesday getting glammed up in colorful clothing and makeup, and then going dancing through the courtyard carefree.

No, you didn’t miss something, the episode quickly flashes back 16 hours and 36 minutes just before Enid tells viewers to admit, this is the Wednesday Addams you didn’t know you needed. So what leads us to this out-of-pocket and unexpected moment?

As we return to the past, Wednesday, Morticia, Gomez, and Enid are meeting with Principal Mort and Sheriff Santiago. They inform the pair that the second Hyde is Tyler’s mother, and they agree to brush it under the rug and take Francoise at her word that she and Tyler will leave town.

Isaac Night emerges as a key to Wednesday’s Hyde problems

While Tyler might be out of the picture for now, Weems reveals to Wednesday that the original vision has not changed: Enid still dies, and Wednesday is responsible.

Frustrated, Wednesday finally seeks Weems’ advice on how she can get her powers back. Much to her displeasure, Weems informs Wednesday that the key to unlocking her abilities is repairing her relationship with her mother. As Weems explains, her psychic abilities are tied to her familiar bonds and the escalating and unresolved tension with her mother is what’s disrupting her power. If Wednesday wants to restore her abilities, she’ll need emotional clarity and overcome the lack of empathy that is holding her back.

The conversation pivots to Francoise and Weems explains to Wednesday that Isaac was her brother. She tells her the story of how he went missing following an explosion in his lab and the legend of where his body was buried. This is when Wednesday puts two and two together, realizing that Pugsley’s zombie pet was actually the reanimated corpse of Isaac Night.

Pugsley isn’t able to tell her much, but he does give her the photo he left behind when he raced off. Said photo happens to be the photo Isaac found in the sewers after feasting on the brains of the hitman hired to neutralize Francoise. Turns out she isn’t the only one looking for Francoise as Isaac is looking for his sister.

Enid may be an alpha

In the previous episode, Enid transformed into a werewolf despite it not being a full moon, a moment that left both the audience and Enid with many questions. Well, it seems the transformation could be an indicator that Enid is actually an alpha.

After witnessing the transformation, Professor Capri comes to visit Enid and tells her the transformation is one of many signs that she’s an alpha. Alphas often are late bloomers and also often wolf out under a blood moon. The news worries Enid as alphas are known for ending up alone.

Before Professor Capri can offer up any assurances to ease her concerns, she gets an alert from Principal Mort about a curfew being enacted. She does, however, assure Enid that there is a lot of misinformation out there, hinting that perhaps there is more to being an alpha than what we know.

Lady Gaga’s Wednesday character spells major trouble for Wednesday

Eager for answers, Wednesday goes to see Grandmama to ask for her help in finding Francoise and Tyler. This prompts Grandmama to ask if Wednesday’s heard of Rosaline Rotwood, a legendary Raven who taught at Nevermore during her time at school. She proceeds to tell Wednesday about how Rotwood is now buried in the Nevermore graveyard and how Ravens who utter the inscription etched underneath the headstone will be granted temporary sight.

Desperate for answers, Wednesday goes to the graveyard and is brought to Rosaline, played to perfection by Lady Gaga. Upon asking for her help, Rosaline instructs her to hold her hand over the flame and her psychic sight will be temporarily renewed. However, she offers a warning in telling her that if she pulls her palm from the flame, she’ll break the Raven’s gaze, and there will be a price to pay.

Midtrance, Enid shows up and pulls Wednesday away, which triggers a Freaky Friday transformation, with the pair waking up in one another’s bodies the following morning.

Needless to say, chaos ensues as Wednesday and Enid both try and hilariously fail on many occasions to keep up appearances. As the day unfolds, Weems warns that this has happened to two other Ravens before, and both died 24 hours after the swap occurred. Wednesday continues to investigate and learns from Rosaline that the only way to survive is for her to unravel the innermost secrets of the life she’s stepped into.

In the process of walking in one another’s shoes, Wednesday learns the struggle Enid is going through as she wraps her head around potentially being an alpha, while Enid learns the truth about Wednesday’s premonition.

Wednesday saves Enid, but someone else is going to die now

As Wednesday and Enid work through their Freaky Friday dilemma, we learn that Francoise has become Tyler’s new master and that she’s also dying. Once reunited with Isaac, he vows to help his sister by finishing the task he was unable to achieve before his death: helping save her life.

This promise leads him to Nevermore, where he visits Professor Orloff. It turns out that Isaac designed the invention that has helped to keep him alive these last 30 years and he’s come to collect. Isaac takes the power source of the machine keeping Orloff alive, before then consuming his brain – a moment Agnes happens to witness.

Hoping to help Wednesday, she follows Isaac, who leads her to Tyler and Francoise as they had out to Willow Hill. As Isaac prepares Francoise for treatment, Tyler discovers Agnes and throws her into a cell, but not before she gets a message out to Wednesday and Enid. The pair comes to her rescue and, while Isaac, Francoise, and Tyler get away, the machine is destroyed in the process.

With the clock ticking, Enid and Wednesday head to the grave of Rosaline, where they both divulge what they’ve learned about one another’s deepest secrets and fears. The confessionals prove successful as the pair switch back and avoid death; however, there’s little time for celebration.

Weems shows up and informs Wednesday that the premonition has changed. While Enid is no longer in danger, it seems someone from the Addams family has been marked for death and must die!
