What are the creepy blue eyes the sisters see in Dune: Prophecy?

For a while now, we've been seeing a creepy pair of blue eyes appear in visions Bene Gesserit sisters have in Dune: Prophecy. What the deal with those?

The Bene Gesserit sisters on Dune: Prophecy have been going through it. In the first episode, Sister Kasha after she was burned from the inside out by a mysterious malady. Before she dies, she sees a strange vision that includes the gaping maw of a sandworm and then a pair of blue eyes staring out of the darkness, accompanied by a strange muffled sound.

In the latest episode, "Twice Born," a bunch of Bene Gesserit acolytes all experience the same nightmare, which seems very similar to what Kasha saw before she died, including that strange pair of blue eyes. What's the deal with that?

Well, if we keep watching, the show will probably tell us. But if you've read some of the Dune books, especially the prequel novels written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, you may already have a guess. Beware potential SPOILERS below!

Is Dune: Prophecy teasing Omnius?

Dune: Prophecy is set in the aftermath of the Machine Wars, where humanity fought against oppressive thinking machines and just barely won their freedom. In the Dune prequel books, the leader of the machines is Omnius, a collection of artificially intelligent entities which ruled the tyrannical Synchronized Empire. Omnius is banished at the end of the Machine Wars, but in the Dune sequel books, also written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, it returns to menace humanity once again. Fighting it in this final form is what humanity has been training to do, without fully realizing it, for thousands of years.

Dune: Prophecy has talked about the Machine Wars a decent amount, and the prohibition against thinking machines has served as an important plot point. It has yet to explicitly mention Omnius, but when I see a pair of creepy blue eyes staring out of the darkness accompanied by a muffled robotic voice, Omnius is what I think of. I wouldn't be surprised if Omnius was revealed to be part of whatever is causing these visions before the first season comes to an end.

New episodes of Dune: Prophecy air Sunday nights on HBO and Max. This first season has six episodes in total, so we're already over halfway done.
