It's been a long road, but at last we've nearly arrived at the eighth and final season of Outlander, Starz's sweeping time-travel series based on the beloved books by Diana Gabaldon. We've come a long way from Claire Randall's first voyage through the standing stones at Craigh na Dun, and her falling in love with the rugged highlander Jamie Fraser. They've traversed continents, started a family, weathered traumas, been separated through time and plunged into the thick of the American Revolutionary War. And in a few short weeks, Claire and Jamie's story will come to its deserved end.

How many episodes is Outlander season 8?
Outlander's final season consists of 10 episodes. That may feel like a lot in the current streaming era, but it's actually something of an anomaly for this particular show, since it's the only season of Outlander to feature that episode count. While it may feel like slightly less than season 7's jam-packed 16-episode run, at least this time we won't need to wait between part one and part two; Starz is airing the entire series in one consistent run.

Outlander season 8 premieres its first episode on Friday, March 6, 2026. After that, episodes will air weekly until its finale, which is expected to drop on May 8. That said, studios these days do like to switch things up occasionally on short notice, so we wouldn't be surprised if the release details shift for one episode or another somewhere during the season's run, depending on holidays and such.

Outlander season 8 is primarily adapting the events of Gabaldon's eighth Outlander book, Written In My Own Heart's Blood, but it's expected to pull in material from the ninth book, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. Whether it will also incorporate any of Gabaldon's final, in-progress Outlander novel remains to be seen.
From the trailer, we can see that things are going to get pretty intense and climactic in the show's final season. Jamie and Claire's daughter Brianna has brought a book back for him from the future, which was written by Claire's ex-husband, the historian Frank Randall. This book reveals that Jamie will die at the upcoming Battle of King's Mountain, which was a crucial clash in South Carolina during the American Revolution. Claire wants Jamie to avoid the battle, but since when has running from destiny ever worked for the Fraser clan?
This season will have to tie up plenty of other plot threads for the shows myriad characters. It's going to be an emotional journey, but Outlander has proven time and again that it has the secret sauce to pull it off. So get ready for one last journey into the past with Claire, Jamie, and all the rest.
