Alien: Earth premiered on FX and Hulu in mid-August 2025, and viewers are absolutely loving this latest installment to the Alien franchise. But it’s not just fans who are talking about it. Sigourney Weaver herself, the iconic Ellen Ripley from the original films, is tuned in and giving the series her stamp of approval.

On Monday, Sept. 8, Weaver attended the PEOPLE/EW and Shutterstock Studio at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival to promote her new movie Dust Bunny. While there, she couldn’t help but gush about Alien: Earth. She openly expressed that she finds the series entertaining and engaging, stating that she's "really enjoying it." The legendary actress also praised the show for going beyond the usual alien story, noting that "the scope is so much more profound than just an Alien movie."

In addition, Weaver shared how impressed she is with the creative direction of Alien: Earth and what series creator Noah Hawley is adding to the franchise. She likes how he introduced bold new concepts, such as hybrids with human consciousness, and is impressed with how the show keeps expanding on these ideas and escalating.

Weaver also briefly mentioned the frightening new creatures Alien: Earth introduces and made a joke about just how many there are, saying, “It’s like, we don’t have enough problems with the alien, we need 50 more.” She's so amazed by the show’s high quality that she told People that she can't believe she's watching TV. In other words, she thinks the show is really well-made that it feels more like a blockbuster movie than a typical television series.

In my own personal opinion, I can agree with Weaver about Alien: Earth. For it to be the first show in the Alien franchise, it's impressively ambitious, and it's only gotten better with each episode. With just a few episodes remaining in the first season, fans are keeping their fingers crossed that the sci-fi horror series gets renewed for a second season. The chances at the moment appear to be looking good, thanks to strong reviews and viewership numbers. However, we'll just have to wait and see what FX decides in the end.

Weaver starred as Ellen Ripley in the original 1979 film, Alien, becoming one of the most iconic heroines in sci-fi and horror history. She would go on to reprise the role in Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992) and Alien: Resurrection (1997). However, she doesn't appear in Alien: Earth. After a research spaceship from deep space crashes on Earth, bringing along dangerous and mysterious creatures, a young hybrid woman and several other AI synthetics must confront these alien threats. That's what Alien: Earth is about.

Sydney Chandler takes on the role of the hybrid woman, Wendy. The cast is also made up of Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, Adarsh Gourav, Erana James, Lily Newmark, and others.

You can catch a new episode of Alien: Earth every Tuesday on FX and Hulu.
