As if all that casting news wasn’t enough, they closed today’s Game of Thrones panel at San Diego Comic Con by announcing the season three premiere date. It debuts on March 31, 2013!

So does that mean a possible Jan or Feb date for the season 2 Blu Ray ?
The KingslayerQuote Reply
It’s funny that we think it’s so soon, but all the comments on facebook are complaining that it’s so far away.

I appreciate that HBO is giving me a belated birthday present. I can wait a month for them to bestow it upon me!

Is it me, or are they trying to force Martin to write the books faster?
sunspearQuote Reply
The bad news is that there is a chance the season premiere will have to air against the ratings monster the Walking Dead at the same time.
JamesLQuote Reply
I can’t wait.

Slightly OT: I just want to go on record saying I expect Edric Storm’s storyline to be absorbed by Shireen. Not sure if anyone else has thought of this yet but it’ll be a neat little fix.
John GQuote Reply
John G,
I could see that working, it would make Davos risking everything to save her from Melisandre more believable
Al SwearengenQuote Reply
A woman agrees that would be a neat fix, but what if GRRM has future plans for the other guy?
Mrs. H’gharQuote Reply
Agreed. It seems to me that GRRM has let us get to know three of Robert’s bastards: Edric, Mya and Gendry for specific reasons. Possibly to prove that Myrcella and/or Tommen aren’t true Baratheons
janarchyQuote Reply
Awesome, really can’t wait! I’m expecting a late February release date for the season 2 DVD. Wish they’d have given a release date for the DVD along with the season 3 premiere.

JamesL,
thought walking dead was coming out in october? its only been about ten eps long both seasons so should be wrapped up by the time got airs.
glennQuote Reply
glenn,
Walking Dead is going to have 16 episodes for Season 3 and I’m sure AMC will split it up like season 2 and air the back 8 in Feb-Mar 2013.
Chump Force 1Quote Reply
Another excellent B-day gift! well, missed by 2 days but still.
John-Michael LelievreQuote Reply
I would guess if AMC are savvy they will finish The Walking Dead the week before GOT starts to get maximum viewers. Are they shown in the same timeslot normally? As they could easily be on one after the other
Stannis for KingQuote Reply
And we won’t have to suffer through February 29th!

This is kinda off topic, but did no one film the comic con panel? I know there was no official filming of it…but this seems kinda strange that no one filmed it… :(
the mighty hodorQuote Reply
I’m sure someone did. It was expected to be up shortly after. I suppose it will be when its saturday morning in the US.

Time enough to re-read book 3 until March 31st…
I´m still childishly hoping for a DVD release for Christmas :)

I hope every year they move the premier date to earlier. Having watched the panel, I thought it was much better than the Hitfix live blog made it seem. I didn’t find George’s question as pervy as Feinberg; he was just trying to be fun.

Yes!!! Season 3, 3-31-13.
I decided to read SofS again, partly to see where they might end the story lines in season 3 and still make it feel like a complete season. There are some ideal moments 1/2 – 2/3rds through the book…obviously there’s the infamous RW, and then there’s Sam leaving Crastor’s with Gilly after the deaths of Crastor and Mormount, Jon escaping from the Wildings, Jamie rescuing Brienne from the bear pit and Dany riding through the freed slaves as they chant “Mother, mother.” Less sure about the characters in King’s Landing, Stannis/Davos, Bran/the Reeds and Arya. I don’t think I’d like it to end with her getting hit with the axe.
I’m anticipating lots of insightful speculation on this at WIC over the next 9 months.
BgapQuote Reply
I’m pretty episode 10 will end with Arya stabbing Polliver to death as she asks him “is there gold in the village?”

Most excellent news! To see “Game Of Thrones” return at a given date, fills me with joy and hope in what is turning to be quite a rough year personally…to have my two favourite shows “Game Of Thrones” and “The Walking Dead” return in a triumphant fashion is a cure for my ails…..LOL!
Well Winter, get that countdown clock up and running…

I’m so dumb!!! i got super excited thinking it was starting a month earlier than last season. then i remembered april 1st is only a day after march 31st!!!
Jaison BiaginiQuote Reply
adding to this when will season 3 end…
i have to say i think they really messed up the end of both season’s so far. if they wanted to sell more books for george, season one should have ended as the sword was about to drop on eddard’s head. perfect cliffhanger. is he dead? did some one intervene? i need to buy some books!!! season two was better but it maybe should have ended during the battle of the black water when all hope was lost. then the would have had an extra hour in each season to add more story that was cut. they are very smart now in not following the books exactly or 1 book 1 season.
as far as season 3 i think we all know it should be the RW. but who knows what they will do??
Jaison BiaginiQuote Reply
Jaison Biagini,
Well, you may be dumb, but at least you are not alone. I did the same thing!

You guys should get to work on the Season 3 cast picture breakdown in the media section, I need to start training my gf who is who well in advance of the introduction of another 15+ characters.
If such action has already been taken, please disregard.

Bgap,
I think the RW will be episode #9, and everything else you listed will happen in #10

Yesterday Game of Thrones debuted on a mainstream channel in Spain and it was a total success! Almost 3 million viewers and 20% share in prime time. Good news indeed!
