George R.R. Martin feeling the pressure to finish The Winds of Winter

As we told you early this week, A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin visited the training camp for the New York Jets. While there, he was interviewed by Jets player and Game of Thrones fan D’Brickashaw Ferguson. During the course of the interview, the release date for The Winds of Winter came up, and Martin talked a little about how it’s going.

"I can write one script per season if I choose to, and I did for the first four seasons, I scripted one episode every season. So the last two seasons I have not done that, simply because I am too busy with the book."

Martin noted that fans of his books have become impatient, and that fact hasn’t escaped him. But he also points out that, unlike with the TV show, he has to write the books by himself.

"There are a lot of people working on the TV show, a lot of very talented people. But I am the only one that can do the books."

I can only imagine the pressure Martin is under at this moment. With Game of Thrones already filming for next year, the author is working hard to get the 6th book in the A Song of Ice and Fire saga, The Winds of Winter, out before the sixth season premiere. Martin occasionally drops clues about his progress on Winds on his Not a Blog. Promisingly, he is meeting with his editors in New York while there for a wedding this month…although that could admittedly could mean nothing.
