Right now, the Game of Thrones production team is in Girona filming a major Season 6 scene, one that involves many of the major King’s Landing players who are still left in the city (at least the ones willing to be seen in public. Cersei apparently declined, citing a bad hair day).
We’ve got pictures coming in from all sources, including Twitter, as excited fans post pictures from today’s outdoor set on the steps ofThe Cathedral of Saint Mary of Girona.
First up, the slate from this scene, which reveals that it will be part of Episode 6. Although we had originally speculated this scene might take place earlier in the year, mainly because we assumed that Jaime would be spending most of his time in the Riverlands, it looks like he’ll stick around King’s Landing for at least the first half of the year. In fact, it may be the aftermath of this incident that drives him to leave the capital city for good.
Video of the Tyrell troops arriving. So much clomping.
Is that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau? The tweeter seems convinced. The picture is a touch blurry, though. If it’s not him, then it’s his stunt double.
Ah, now, that’s him, possibly not dressed to film a scene yet.
And here’s what is almost certainly a picture of Margaery (the one with the long brown hair just down and to the left of the center) via today’s photos published at El Punt Avui. Note that, unlike some Queens we could mention, she is not exiting the Sept with a brand new hairdo. (Also, I wasn’t joking earlier about Cersei sitting this scene out. All reports confirm that Lena Headey is not in Girona for filming.) Looking closer, is that Jonathan Pryce in costume as well behind her? Here’s a closer look.
We’re gonna go with yes.
A fan snapped a pic with Dormer as well.
According to Los Siete Reinos, fans are claiming that they have also spotted Eugene Simon (Lancel Lannister), Diana Rigg (Lady Olenna), and Roger Ashton-Griffiths (Mace Tyrell, back from Braavos), but there is no visual evidence confirming as such (as yet—we’ll update if/when that changes).
Another picture of what I’m pretty sure is Margaery getting her make up touched up. I’m 99.9% certain that’s Pryce with his back to us here.
And now a couple of shots from a break in filming:
The Tyrell army, ready to march up the steps.
The litter, ready for pick up. At first, I thought this might be how Tommen was arriving to the scene, but LSR has it that Tommen isn’t coming with Jaime—he’s actually inside the Sept when Jaime arrives, and leaves with Margaery. This suggests the possibility that Jaime isn’t heading to the Sept to rescue Margaery, or because he loves his nephew/son, but because Tommen has been taken prisoner by the High Sparrow. (Or perhaps he decided he was going to stay in the Sept until his beloved could leave too? We can’t be sure.) Either way, freeing Tommen would make a lot more sense plot-wise for Jaime to be riding up the steps of the cathedral all decked out in his gold armor, because Cersei ordered him to get her son back.
