Dean Jagger Reportedly Playing Smalljon Umber

Consider this backfill information. Though we know that there’s still at least a couple more weeks of filming left on Game of Thrones Season 6, and reportedly, some of that will be Northern Plot based, this casting announcement from Watchers on the Wall is for someone who has been filming for months.

Circumstantial evidence had added up, and WOTW is confident enough to say that Dean Jagger is cast in the role. (And if you are old enough to think of the actor from Twelve O’Clock High, no, no relation.) His previous credits include The Paddy Lincoln Gang, a movie that came out of a short he wrote himself called A Night At Rob McAlisters. He is an alumni of the Identity School of Acting, who boasted of his casting a few months back, dropped in the middle of a completely unrelated Facebook post on John Boyega.

It speaks to how much of this season HBO and Game of Thrones have fought to keep Season 6 under wraps, that it took an accident of fate of being photographed on a now deleted Instagram from the Saintfield wrap party, and an eagle eyed reader to put two and two together on this one. Consider too, the fact that the Umbers have never been more than supporting players in this Westerosi drama that continues to unfold before us. And yet, the show did not put out word of whom was playing Smalljon Umber–a character for whom the casting announcement when out back in June, and has been filled since this August 12th posting, and worked probably throughout most of the two month Saintfield filming process. What else have they been keeping under wraps?

We’ll have to wait until April to find out.
