Hilarity pile: Even Zales The Diamond Store is theorizing about Jon Snow’s parentage

Or it’s just happenstance. Either way: funny.

Here’s what happened: Zales, a major jewelry retailer, recently put out a new ad, one of those commercials that reinforces how wonderful love is so men will buy enormous diamonds when it comes time to propose. The ad shows a couple snowshoeing through a mountainous region. As they crest a hill, they see what the man has written in the snow: a giant heart with the initials of himself and his beloved inscribed inside. The initials may seem familiar to anyone familiar with a very popular Game of Thrones fan theory.

Okay, so does the fact that the letters “R + L” are written in the snow mean that someone on the commercial’s production team was a giant Game of Thrones fan who couldn’t help sneaking in a reference to the infamous R + L = J fan theory, or is this just a coincidence? Zales has yet to comment, by which we mean it hasn’t responded to our tweet. We don’t blame it. So R + L = J confirmed, basically.

In other funnies, Will Ferrell revealed that he’d like to have a Game of Thrones role. He said as much while in Dublin to attend the Irish premiere of his new comedy, Daddy’s Home. “I would love to shoot a movie in Ireland,” he said. “I don’t think I’ve gotten an opportunity to work here. There’s not that many movies to shoot, but I’d love to – or at least do a Game of Thrones episode in Northern Ireland.”

I don’t see it happening, but something to keep in mind for Season 8.
