Melisandre Attends a Baby Shower with Seth Meyers
By Ani Bundel
From dinner parties to baby showers, Seth Meyers is always making sure that the characters of Game of Thrones are interacting with us common mortals. Last year, as part of Kit Harington’s appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Meyers staged a hipster dinner party at his place in NYC, with several regular friends….and a very dour, unsmiling Jon Snow. The viral clip was such a hit that this year that he’s done it again. The guest this time was Carice van Houten (no relation to the Springfield van Houtens.) The invitation: to Seth Meyer’s wife Alexi’s baby shower.
The Red Priestess’ appearance at the affair goes about as well as you would expect.

“But the night is dark and full of terrors! Everyone knows that.” You have to admit the part where the shadow demon killed Renly was pretty fun…well, okay, maybe only if you weren’t there and didn’t have to watch Brienne have a complete meltdown. And as for that present of Valyrian Steel, anyone who saw “Hardhome” knows that Melisandre’s gift is going to be very valuable when Winter arrives in New York City.
As for that “guy she works with, Jon Snow?” Turns out she’s pretty sure he’s dead too.
Van Houten also did a sit-down interview. Note that this is the first latenight interview by a cast member who is here only to promote Game of Thrones Season 6. Before, cast members have been promoting different projects but just happen to talk about Game of Thrones while they’re at it. This may signal the official beginning of Season 6 press season.
I will say that Melisandre’s look when Jon Snow refuses her sexual advances does very much say “B*tch please.” And personally, I don’t know why she didn’t tell this story about giving birth to a shadow baby when she was at the baby shower.
Although Van Houten didn’t really touch on it here, she does have a non-Game of Thrones project coming up. She’s playing famous Nazi filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl in Race, a movie about Jesse Owens’ experiences at the 1936 Summer Olympics in 1936. Van Houten talked about the role on Fox.
Yes, these interviewers ask about Game of Thrones, and no, Van Houten doesn’t say anything. Race comes out today.
