Game of Thrones premiere screenings coming to select cities
By Dan Selcke
Last week, select guests got to view the Game of Thrones Season 6 premiere, entitled “The Red Woman,” during a special screening event in Los Angeles. The show has clamped down on spoilers this year, so other advance screenings—even at George R.R. Martin’s own Jean Cocteau Cinema in Sante Fe—were nixed.
However, Entertainment Weekly is now reporting that there will be select screenings of “The Red Woman” in four cities across America: Atlanta, Austin, Boston, and Denver. They won’t be advance screenings. Rather, fans will watch the episode as it airs this Sunday, with the only difference being that it’s on the big screen. However, as people who have seen the premiere note, the show works like gangbusters on a big screen. EW’s James Hibberd says that “[y]ou feel like you’re not seeing it the right way the rest of the time.”
A the moment, we only have details on the Austin screening. It’ll be hosted by the ATX Television Festival and the Alamo Drafthouse, and there will be a Game of Thrones-themed scavenger hunt beforehand. If you’re in the area and want tickets, you need to gather a team of 3-6 people and register here. The scavenger hunt starts at 5 p.m. on April 24—at 7:00, the top teams will be invited to the screening at 8:00.
So there are some pretty big hoops to jump through before fans can see the screening. EW reports that Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei) may be in attendance in Austin, so that might go a ways toward softening the blow.
