Deleted scene from “The Door” explored the Tormund-Brienne love connection

The good news is that there’s more to the Brienne-Tormund romance than we saw onscreen in “The Door,” last night’s new Game of Thrones episode. The bad news is that we probably won’t get to see it until the Season 6 home video release comes out, complete with a selection of deleted scenes.

Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the production filmed a moment involving Sansa “going Mean Girls” on Brienne and teasing the warrior maid about Tormund’s flirtations. “[Y]ou had this powerful warrior who’s totally flustered,” said Christie. We will riot if that scene doesn’t show up on DVD/Blu-ray set.

Christie also talked about the Tormund-Brienne love connection, which has sort of taken the internet by storm since it debuted in “Book of the Stranger,” more generally. “First of all, Kristofer [Hivju] is absolutely hilarious,” she said. “I don’t think I’ve been in a scene on Game of Thrones when it’s been everything I can do to stop myself from laughing. The way he was behaving toward me was just extraordinary.”

"I enjoyed Brienne being put in that position of feeling awkward and not wanting the attention. That was a very fun thing to play. He’s a wildling, he’s very sensual and animal-like and very forthright with his emotions and feelings — which is really the opposite of [Brienne]. I enjoyed trying to navigate that and the beauty of her embarrassment. She can totally deal with the situation, and with him, but she’s just so embarrassed about it."

Will the two meet again? Time will tell, but judging purely by the number of memes this flirtation has generated, it’s something the internet wants to see happen.
