Brienne of Tarth Featured Game of Thrones Interview

Deleted scene from “The Door” explored the Tormund-Brienne love connection

The good news is that there’s more to the Brienne-Tormund romance than we saw onscreen in “The Door,” last night’s new Game of Thrones episode. The bad news is that we probably won’t get to see it until the Season 6 home video release comes out, complete with a selection of deleted scenes.

Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the production filmed a moment involving Sansa “going Mean Girls” on Brienne and teasing the warrior maid about Tormund’s flirtations. “[Y]ou had this powerful warrior who’s totally flustered,” said Christie. We will riot if that scene doesn’t show up on DVD/Blu-ray set.

Christie also talked about the Tormund-Brienne love connection, which has sort of taken the internet by storm since it debuted in “Book of the Stranger,” more generally. “First of all, Kristofer [Hivju] is absolutely hilarious,” she said. “I don’t think I’ve been in a scene on Game of Thrones when it’s been everything I can do to stop myself from laughing. The way he was behaving toward me was just extraordinary.”

I enjoyed Brienne being put in that position of feeling awkward and not wanting the attention. That was a very fun thing to play. He’s a wildling, he’s very sensual and animal-like and very forthright with his emotions and feelings — which is really the opposite of [Brienne]. I enjoyed trying to navigate that and the beauty of her embarrassment. She can totally deal with the situation, and with him, but she’s just so embarrassed about it.

Will the two meet again? Time will tell, but judging purely by the number of memes this flirtation has generated, it’s something the internet wants to see happen.

        • Who knows.. the way things are going it looks like Daenerys is truly meant to be the heroine of the day, and save everyone’s ass. Which really makes it difficult to understand what is Bran’s role now, beside hijacking dragons to bring them in the right place.

  • What did she mean with Sansa going “mean girls” … so Sansa made fun about it???? I need that scene …

    • I wholeheartedly agree, the gratuitous killing of the direwolves serves no purpose worthy of their sacrifices. It’s such shameless bullshit.

      • All three of you need to cuddle up together and go sit down somewhere lol, hush with that “no purpose” mess. It was a symbolism of summer killed by winter. Humans going out every episode and all some of you think about is dogs, yeah it stinks he went out so soon but it happens for a reason.

        • We were not discussing dogs, direwolves are an important element of the show,i suggest you have madre explain the differences between the two animals. Then after she can explain metaphor to her nino:)

    • Totally agree, had high hopes they would be heroes but they have been rubbish, they have not lived up to the descriptions in the books

      • If they (dogs) died later on you d still be mad so what qould be the difference, he died a hero just sooner than expected smh

    • They didn’t do Summer justice. Summer ripped someone’s throat out when she was still a pup. At least they should’ve showed her rip some wights apart before being overwhelmed. RIP Summer :(

  • Summers death is barely even acknowledged! It’s the only time we’ve seen a Stark knowingly warg and really constantly be connected to their owner and it’s like Bran didn’t even feel it ! I don’t understand how it’s not even mentioned 😭

  • The actor who plays Tormund is so great! He really gets away with giving Brienne googly eyes.

  • Summer was killed by “winter”, it’s symbolism. Maybe a bit heavy-handed, but it’s to symbolize that now the world of Westeros is entering its darkest hour.

  • All for Tormund and Brienne!! Lady Brienne definitely needs to get laid before she dies! 😜

  • Kimber: I totally agree with you about Summer! I think it’s huge that Summer died. I’m surprised (as well) that people aren’t making a bigger deal about it. Very sad to lose Summer! Damn you, Bran! 😕

Vanessa: interesting point about Summer’s death. I love it — and agree!

  • And unless he never shows up again and they kill Rickon I’m not buying the shaggy is gone theory that head was too small

  • What if it was Bran speaking to the Mad King?? instructing him to “burn them all”?? This whole time-travel thing has stepped GOT up to a whole new level.

  • Wolves aren’t dogs. They’re wolves.
Yeah I’m pissed that the dire wolves are getting killed off by D&D in the show. I’ll be curious to see if it’s the same in the books. Or just them going for their gratuitous shock value….again and again and again. Screw this.
Yeah it was sad the Hodor died. Hopefully Bran feels really guilty about the whole debacle he caused.

  • Maybe if we all pretended to like Ramsey and want him to win D&D might kill him off. Oohh the audience like him do they? We better kill him!!😝😝😝😝

  • How could they do that to me? Oh that’s right, it’s GoT, they’re supposed to crush my happiness.
