Yesterday, HBO confirmed many of the filming locations for Game of Thrones Season 7. As usual, the production will be spending time in Northern Ireland. It’ll also visit Iceland, and shoot in many areas around Spain. These include the cities of Seville, Cáceres, Almodóvar del Río, Santiponce, Zumaia, and Bermeo.

Today, we’ve got more information about the Spanish locations, courtesy of Los Siete Reinos. Among other things, the Spanish-language Game of Thrones fansite confirms that the production is interested in the town of Almodóvar del Río because of the Castillo de Almodóvar del Río. That’s it in the header image above. It’s a beautiful castle, and it should be obvious why HBO is interested in it. Filming here will take place in November and last more than a week, “although the dates are flexible.”

By the looks of it, the Castillo de Almodóvar del Río would make a great Highgarden, but remember: the production is holding off on filming this year so it can take advantage of snowy weather. November doesn’t seem guaranteed to bring snow, but the castle does look great covered in the stuff.

Los Seite Reinos also directs us toward Hoy, a Spanish publication with information about what the show will be doing around Cáceres. According to Hoy, filming will take place in both the city of Cáceres and in the small town of Malpartida, located in the province of Cáceres. We don’t exactly where filming will take place, but Hoy expects the show to shoot around Los Barruecos, a beautiful natural monument. Hoy mentions that the area may be used for “large water scenes” with a lot of extras. Could this be where Daenerys’ army lands?

Meanwhile, Europa Press has an interview with Carolina Casanova, the mayor of Santiponce, in the province of Seville. According to Casanova, HBO is interested in shooting in the Roman ruins of Italica.

This certainly is a striking location. It looks like it belongs somewhere on Essos, or possibly Dorne. As of now, there’s no word on what the production may film in the city of Seville itself, only that filming will happen there.

On to the town of Zumaia, Baleike.eus confirmed that, as we’ve reported before, filming will take place on Itzurun Beach. Baleike.eus was present for a press conference held by Zumaia mayor Oier Korta, who said that filming will take place for six days starting on October 26. “Recordings will be land and sea.” This seems like another good place for Daenerys’ fleet to land.

Finally, EITB confirms that HBO will film scenes on the shores of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, an islet belonging to the city of Bermeo. Councillor for Tourism Irune Ormaetxea said that filming begins in October, since “they need a winter environment.“

The preponderance of seaside locations makes me think that Daenerys’ navy will play a big part in these shoots. All of the locations are gorgeous, and I’m sure they’ll look terrific on screen. What do you think these locations will be used for?
