Sophie Turner: “Not All Of Us” Make It To Game of Thrones Season 8

There are a few things that Game of Thrones delivers reliably every season—big jaw dropping moments, for instance. Tyrion quips, for another. Oh, and killing off characters. Even in the less bloodthirsty seasons, like Season 2, people are always dying on screen.

By that logic, Sophie Turner’s remark on the red carpet this weekend that suggested characters will die is not all that newsworthy. And yet.

“We’ve got one more season…well, not all of us.”

Speculation AHOY

When she mentions cast members “hanging around Belfast a lot longer,” could Turner be speaking of herself? Of the main characters who are heading into Season 7, Sansa’s character is one I’ve got on my list as “questionable” for survival. We know time is running out for some characters. Cersei, for instance. With a religiously tinged 9/11 on her hands that the smallfolk will suspect she caused, nothing about her reign is expected to be easy, or very long. It’s just a matter of how and when she goes.

As for people who were there at the Emmys, most people expect Arya to survive, although that’s more holdover from book-readers who have been repeating the rumor that, because Martin’s wife Parris loves the character, she won’t be killed off. Jon Snow already died once, so one assumes that he’ll make it to Season 8. Likewise, Daenerys’ survival seems assured.

But Sansa’s survival is up in the air. Personally, I’m a proponent of this theory. As with Cersei, the details of her possible demise are unclear. Does she join with Littlefinger against Jon because she feels his being elevated to leadership of the North over her is insulting? Is her joining with Littlefinger a ruse to keep Jon safe? Does she join with Littlefinger and then regret it and decide to turn against him? Does she do something that reminds us all how much audiences have hated her for her shortsightedness in previous seasons? Or does she turn out to be a master chess player and the only one who can stop Littlefinger’s chaos ladder climbing? Whatever the case, it sounds like her loyalties will be tested, if this interview is any indication:

All of these roads still lead to Rome: Sansa may not live to see the final battle against the Night King. Whether that means she has more than one season left in her is yet to be seen.

In milder news, she also ruminated about what will happen after the show is over to E! News.

"[I’m] probably sadder than you guys are. It’s been my life since I was 13, so I’m pretty sad about it. It’s crazy when the show finishes I’ll pretty much be the same age that Kit [Harington] was when he started…which is crazy. I don’t know what I’m going to do with my life."

She speaks for us all.
