Celeb roundup: Neil deGrasse Tyson outs Isaac Hempstead Wright as a giant nerd, and more

New York Comic Con is underway, and there are some fun Game of Thrones-related stories wafting out of there. Yesterday, we reported on an unveiling event for the George R.R. Martin Box, the ultimate piece of GoT merchandise for Christmas 2016. Today, Business Insider brings us a story that yokes together two unlikely figures: celebrity astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and Isaac Hempstead Wright, aka Bran Stark on Game of Thrones.

Yesterday, Tyson sat on a panel promoting the National Geographic Channel’s StarTalk, a talk show about science and stuff. He showed off a clip from as-yet unseen video interview with Wright. “What’s the geekiest thing you’ve ever done?” Tyson asks Wright in the video. “It’s got to be so geeky that you’re simultaneously embarrassed and proud of it.” Wright’s response:

"Well I can recite Pi to quite a few decimal places. It used to be 60 but I think it’s down to about 40 now."

That sounds pretty impressive to me, although Tyson cautioned that “40, 50, 60” is no great shakes “among Pi people.” (I love that there’s such a thing as Pi people.) “But among actors, maybe you win.”

Not to be intimidated, Wright took a deep breath and rattled off all the digits he could manage. “3.14159265358979323846264338327950.” Sure, that’s closer to 30 digits than 40, but the Comic Con audience was suitably impressed.

Incidentally, Wright studies particle physics and neuroscience in his spare time. Dude’s got some interesting hobbies. “He’s got something special going on,” Game of Thrones costar Sophie Turner told People a couple months back. “He’s a highly intelligent guy.” It’ll be interesting to see what Wright does after Thrones is over. With that sort of brain power, plus the exposure he got through the show, he should have plenty of options.

Speaking of Sophie Turner, she’s at Paris Fashion Week, rocking a pretty wild outfit featuring both front and side cutouts, a funkily shaped white train, and some kind of…high-heel-military boot combo. Take a look.

Finally, let’s bring our two topics—New York Comic Con and fashion—together with this couple, who have attended the event in their best cosplay: a gender-reversed Khal Drogo and Daenerys. Those guys really have staying power.
