Season 6 Blu-ray extra: Sansa discusses the Great Northern Alliance

The Game of Thrones Season 6 home box set is on store shelves, and extras continue to make their on to the internet. Today, Mayes T has posted another History and Lore feature from the Blu-ray set: Northern Allegiances to House Stark.

Those who got their box sets on November 15th have probably already watched this a few times. But for those of us waiting because we know our loved ones need something to buy us for the holidays, this is all new. Narrated by Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), this fantastic animated short takes a deep dive into the network of alliances around House Stark, and tells us about the reality behind the phrase “The North Remembers.”

Some of these details are the sorts of things that are barely mentioned in passing in the books, and are probably forgotten by all but the most ardent student of Westerosi history. For instance, the bit about how Bear Island was won in a wrestling match, while interesting, probably isn’t a detail many remember off the top of their heads. But other factoids are ones I wish the TV show had found time to underline, like how House Karstark was founded on a breakaway line from House Stark. Details like that deepen both Robb Stark’s choice to punish Lord Karstark back in Season 3 as well as the family’s choice to join up with the Boltons.

Then there’s the stuff mentioned in passing that I wish would get it’s own deep dive, like the Warg King. Considering that Starks have the power to warg, the idea that they once fought a “warg king” is fascinating, and may provide an explanation for why their ability to warg was largely forgotten until the events of our story.

For those who haven’t gotten their hands on a Season 6 box set yet, there are other extras to watch round the net, including:

There’s also a History and Lore video on the Tourney at Harrenhal, another on Riverrun, and a behind-the-scenes look at the making of “Battle of the Bastards.” Plenty of extras to go around.
