The Season 6 home box set is coming out soon, and the wonderful folks over at HBO have begun to tease the extras. We already got a look at a History and Lore animated short. Now, Entertainment Weekly has debuted a wonderful deleted scene featuring Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg) and Mace Tyrell (Roger Ashton-Griffiths). The scene was cut from the second episode of the year, “Home.” Have a watch.

This scene bridges the gap between Mace’s disastrous trip to the Iron Bank of Braavos in Season 5 and his arrival back in King’s Landing in Season 6. Ashton-Griffiths previously teased this scene and lamented that it was cut from Season 6. After seeing it, we agree with him. The Queen of Thorns is in fine form here, lacing into her son for not seeing through Cersei’s plan to send him to Braavos in the first place, and chiding him for his gallivanting around, singing his heart out, while his children were being locked away in King’s Landing. It reinforces the idea that Mace is something of a buffoon, but it also gives us a better idea of the love he bears his kids, Margaery and Loras.

Olenna was dead-on about the singing, though.

It also gives us our first glimpse into Olenna’s plans for Season 6. Olenna’s appointment to the Small Council appears to be a means to an end, as she intends to free her grandchildren and then flee King’s Landing for good. For a deleted scene, this one contains quite a few tidbits.

This deleted scene is but one of four on the the Season 6 boxset, set for release November 15th.
