The Writers Guild of America has revealed which TV shows are up for Writers Guild awards for 2016, and Game of Thrones made the cut.
The show is up for two awards. First, it stands to win the general “Drama Series” award, where its competition includes The Americans, Better Call Saul, Stranger Things, and Westworld, the show HBO is hoping will succeed Game of Thrones as its tentpole drama. It’s a strong category. Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, along with staff writers Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill, are all up for this award.

Next, Benioff and Weiss are nominated for the “Episodic Drama” award for their work on the script for “The Winds of Winter,” the Season 6 finale. Competition here includes episodes from Showtime’s I Am a Storm (“Shameless”) and NBC’s The Trip (“This Is Us”). Also, there are fully three episodes from AMC’s Better Call Saul nominated in this category: “Gloves Off,” “Klick,” and “Switch.”
The award ceremony, hosted by Patton Oswalt, will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on February 19, 2017. Best of luck to the Game of Thrones writers!
