Game of Thrones loses to Outlander at the People’s Choice Awards

And awards season roils on. The latest awards show to make waves was the People’s Choice Awards, which were broadcast on CBS last night. Game of Thrones was nominated for a couple of awards, but didn’t win either.

FAVORITE PREMIUM SCI-FI/FANTASY SERIES

  • Game of Thrones
  • Marvel’s Luke Cage
  • Outlander (WINNER)
  • Stranger Things
  • Westworld

The weird thing about this category is how specific it is. There are also categories for “Favorite Network Sci-fi/Fantasy TV Show” (Winner: Supernatural) and “Favorite Cable Sci-fi/Fantasy TV Show” (Winner: The Walking Dead.) (Also, I’m not sure why they’re “TV shows” when on network or cable television but “series” when on premium channels.)

And Game of Thrones didn’t even make the list of nominees for Favorite TV Show, although The Big Bang TheoryGrey’s AnatomyStranger Things and The Walking Dead all did. Outlander won in that category, too.

Elsewhere, Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) was nominated for and lost one of the night’s big acting awards.

FAVORITE SCI-FI/FANTASY TV ACTRESS

  • Caitriona Balfe (WINNER)
  • Emilia Clarke
  • Jennifer Morrison
  • Lauren Cohan
  • Millie Bobby Brown

Balfe, if you were wondering, plays lead character Claire Fraser on Outlander. Man, the people really like Outlander.

Although Game of Thrones generally does very well at award shows (and at the Emmys, in particular), it’s never done well at the People’s Choice Awards, despite its enduring popularity. It’s received 12 nominations over the years, and has won zero. The closest Game of Thrones came to winning anything last night was when Me Before You, a romance starring Emilia Clarke, won the award for Favorite Dramatic Movie.

But you know what? Game of Thrones did just fine at this year’s IGN People’s Choice Awards, so THERE.

Ahem.
