WiC tech: How to add an avatar for your comments
By Sarah Weymes
At WiC, our readers often ask us how they can add avatars to their comments when responding to articles. In the interest of making the comment process as pleasant and personable as possible, we’ve put together this handy guide to setting up a profile photo using Gravatar. If you like, this guide will help your comments look less like this…
…and more like this:
Step 1: Sign up to Gravatar
Follow the link here to sign up for a Gravatar account via WordPress. There are two ways to sign up from here. You can use a pre-existing WordPress account or you can create a new one.
If you already have a WordPress account, you can simply log in using your WordPress credentials. If not, you will need to activate your account after you create it by following the link in your activation email from WordPress.
Step 2: Upload your image
Once you’re logged in, you simply need to navigate to ‘My Gravatars’ to upload the profile picture of your choice.
And that’s that! Once you upload your photo, it will automatically appear alongside your handle on any website that accepts Gravatar images, including WordPress and Disqus. You can return and change your image at any time by visiting the Gravatar site. Of course, there’s no requirement you have an avatar to comment on WiC, but for those of you who want one, we hope this helps.
Please bear in mind that, although Game of Thrones is a hotbed of sex, violence and gore, we ask that you keep your avatars PG-rated, as we—and most other sites—operate a zero-tolerance policy on any avatars that feature graphic or pornographic material.
