Sophie Turner hints at Sansa’s fate in Game of Thrones season 7

Sophie Turner attended the British Academy Film Awards (the BAFTAs) this past weekend, and dropped an important nugget of information about Sansa Stark’s future while on the red carpet. Beware minor SPOILERS in the video below.

The money quote comes not long after the interviewer asks Turner what’s coming next in her career, around 0:50.

We’re about to start shooting the next X-Men, we just finished shooting season 7 of Thrones, and I’ve got a couple of movies to do before X-Men starts, and then we go on to season 8! So I’ve got a busy year lined up.

“And then we go to season 8.” What does that mean? That Sansa Stark survives season 7.

As a main character, many fans probably already figured Sansa would at least make it through season 7, but as the show gets closer to an ending, we can’t afford to assume that anyone is safe. Turner herself suggested that not all of the characters would run the final lap when she was at the Emmys last year.

“We’ve got one more season…well, not all of us.” That’ll keep Game of Thrones up at night.

Anyway, this would seem to take some of the pressure off fans nervous about Sansa’s fate. After all, last we left her, she was heading for a battle of wills with Littlefinger in Winterfell, and you can never trust that guy.

  • Pretty sure it has been fairly obvious from the beginning that the Stark kids were the only characters in the GoT universe that would travel a full character arc. It was just a matter of which kids wouldn’t make the trip and they kind of foreshadowed that in the first episode.

    • Up until last season it wasn’t so obvious. Rickon could well have had a full late arc, and indeed lots of fans speculated on it and that he would become the Lord of Winterfell. Perhaps GRRM will still do that. Even now treacherous, shallow, and selfish, Sansa is my least favourite Stark. Nevertheless still deserves to survive into the last season because her book and show stories (the show’s is rather muddled–Jeyne false Arya etc) do deserve some closure. So long as she is sidelined into the fate she seems meant for (wife and baby-hatcher for Robin Arryn), her survival IMO is acceptable. In which case…NO MORE DEAD STARKS. However, considering the ways Sophie and to some extent D&D have promoted her importance and success are so off-book, morally perverse, and undeserved, I would rather see her join Robb and Rickon than to survive and succeed.

  • hopefully we are going to see Denadious Targaryen and Starks joining hand to destroy the king’s landing …. or maybe not … very eager so see what’s coming

  • I would love to see The Night King, with Tyrion as his advisor, walk into the Red Keep, and slaughter every last Lannister.
    What an ending!

  • Most everyone will die in season 8 but the world will be saved from the White Walkers. “If you think this has a happy ending, you haven’t been paying attention…”

I thought we already had so-called confirmation that Hodor does not return as a wight. That would be the ultimate in sadness. RIP Hodor!
