April Fool’s Day has come and gone, and several places pulled Game of Thrones-themed pranks. They ranged from the obvious — MensXP reported that the first episode of season 7 had leaked, causing a stir to the point where other sites had to assure fans that it hadn’t happened — to the more creative, as when GoT theory channel Alt Shift X analyzed Game of Thrones porn parody Game of Bones with a completely straight face.
“Game of Bones is one of the lesser-known and less understood installments in the Game of Thrones series. More than mere pornography, Game of Bones might actually reveal some deep secrets about the world of ice and fire.” It and it just gets better from there. (Also, while Alt Shift X pixelates the naughty the bits, this may still be NSFW.)
“How will Jon Snow react when he finds that his mother is not only alive but is fellating Podrick Payne?” Moving on…
Elsewhere, Traveler claimed that the Game of Thrones production was filming in the Ladakh region of India, and even photoshopped a few cast members into the background to back up its claims.
And George R.R. Martin, being an inherently authoritative source, pulled perhaps the biggest stunt of all: he claimed on his Not a Blog that Wild Cards, the long-running superhero anthology series he edits, was being turned into a Broadway musical.
"Wild Cards is coming to Broadway in a lavish new musical production, scripted and produced by yours truly and the members of the Wild Cards consortium, in partnership with none other than the amazing, astonishing, incredible, multi-talented Lin-Manuel Miranda."
Miranda, of course, is the guy behind Hamilton, the hip-hop-heavy musical about the founding fathers America didn’t know it needed. According to Martin, Miranda himself was to star in the show, with Sibel Kekilli (Shae) as the female lead.
As far as April Fool’s Jokes go, this one was pretty creative. Now back to reality: it’s all dragons and ice zombies from here on out.
