Ed Sheeran downplays his cameo in Game of Thrones season 7—”Nothing exciting happens”
By Corey Smith
Much ado was made about singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran’s upcoming cameo in Game of Thrones season 7. But his fans shouldn’t be holding out hope for a showstopping moment. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Sheeran says his cameo “has been build up too much.”
"I haven’t seen it yet! I just know the scene I did, I did with Maisie [Williams], and it’s decent. I like it. Nothing exciting happens in this scene, we just have a conversation and that’s kind of it."
That would hold with tradition. When other musicians have been on the show — members of Mastodon, Coldplay and Snow Patrol have all had appearances — their parts have boiled down to just a few moments of screen time, often with no dialogue. “People will just be like, ‘Oh… oh, all right,'” Sheeran said. “It’s not an integral part of it, at all. I’m just like, in it.”
Odds are that Sheeran plays a musically inclined character, as when when fellow English musician and Coldplay drummer Will Champion played a drummer during the Red Wedding (and theoretically helped murder the Starks). Whatever happens, Sheeran will be more mindful of filming conditions the next time he makes a cameo:
"I didn’t put on my thermal socks and I was outside in the winter in England for about 10 hours. So it was cold."
Did you not get the memo Sheeran? Winter is coming. Sorry. We couldn’t resist.
Game of Thrones season 7 returns July 16.
