Iwan Rheon reflects on his time as Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones
Gone but not forgotten, actor Iwan Rheon left his mark on Game of Thrones by playing Ramsay Bolton, one of the greatest villains to ever grace the small screen. Rheon recently talked about his time on the show, and his other projects, in a Facebook Live chat with BUILD. The Game of Thrones portion of the interview starts around the 10:20.
Naturally, Rheon talked about the controversial scene from season 5 where Ramsay Bolton raped Sansa Stark on their wedding night. “[T]hat was a really horrible thing to film. I really didn’t want to do it.”
He admitted he doesn’t really miss playing Ramsay, but not because it wasn’t satisfying — it’s just that it was a chapter in his life that’s now over. In fact, he thought playing Ramsay was “liberating…because he’s just so free.”
"It’s just that really weird thing where you can detach yourself from it because you’re reading a character, but when you actually think about it, it is pretty insane."
At least now he relax and enjoy the show without worrying about whether he’s “rubbish.”
Rheon also described how he found out that Ramsay was going to die in season 6, saying he had a feeling it was coming because, for a show like Game of Thrones to move forward, a villain like Ramsay needed to be removed.
"You get to a point with a character that evil and I don’t think it serves the show anymore. What are they going to do next?"
Finally, BUILD asked Rheon if there was any chance Ramsay could come back. Obviously, he laughed off the question by saying Ramsay would “need some serious reconstructional surgery” for that to happen. Don’t expect any Jon Snow-type resurrections here.
