Jamie and Claire’s “love deepens” in Outlander season 6

The cast and crew of Outlander got together (virtually) to tease what comes next in season 6. Bring on the Revolutionary War!

Many events and conventions have opted to go virtual this year, including the annual PaleyFest LA, which hosts panels on all things TV. This year, a total of 10 shows got the roundtable treatment, including Outlander on Starz.

Joining in from basically every corner of the world, the cast and crew of Outlander came together to talk about what fans can expect in the upcoming sixth season, this after the fifth season of the time-traveling romance took us for one hell of a ride. From Claire’s abduction to Jamie’s near-death experience to Murtagh’s death, there was almost too much to deal with. Cut us some slack — we can’t handle any more heartbreak!

In the final moments of the season 5 finale, we see Claire attempting to deal with the pain of her abduction and assault. She’s a strong woman and will persevere, but there is a long road ahead of her that will surely be a big part of season 6.

Still, according to executive producer Maril Davis, not everything in season 6 will be doom and gloom. “Jamie and Claire, their love deepens; Roger and Brianna, they have their own journey…and Caitlin [O’Ryan], who plays Lizzie, has a great story, and she’s such a great actress.”

For a couple who are already so deeply and fully in love, I can’t imagine what it means for Jamie and Claire’s love to “deepen,” but I’ll watch to find out.

And as for the emotional rollercoaster the writers love to us put through every season? Don’t worry, there will be more of that too. “There are going to be joys, there’s going to be a drama, there’s going to be suffering, there’s going to be tears,” said executive producer Matthew B. Roberts. “All of the above.”

One story in particular I’m excited to see develop is Brianna’s. As a survivor of sexual assault, she’s been through a traumatic ordeal, and now her mother is experiencing the same thing. Surely Claire will be relying on Brianna a lot going forward. “Brianna’s pretty much been through everything that could happen to a person,” said actor Sophie Skelton. “But I know that there’s so much more happening next season that will be exciting to see what we’ve got, what the writers do, because it’s always amazing.”

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, production on Outlander season 6 has been postponed, and there is no start date as of yet. But rest assured, the minute they get the green light, the cast is ready to go. “It feels like the universe is opening up a bit and for us to draw upon as well,” said Sam Heughan (Jamie). “I can’t wait to go back to work, honestly.”

Even Richard Rankin (Roger) is “desperate” to get back into it. According to him, Roger “couldn’t be more ready for the Revolutionary War.”

The cast sounds just as eager to act season 6 as we are to see it. Here’s hoping we all get what we want very soon.
