Florence Pugh to reprise Black Widow role in Hawkeye show?

Marvel is making a Hawkeye show for Disney+, and the rumors are flying…not unlike arrows.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, no one ever really dies; their characters are just rethought and then used in a different context. For Florence Pugh, the process is starting early. She hasn’t even made her Marvel debut in Black Widow, where she plays one of Natasha Romanoff’s fellow assassins and found sister Yelena Belova. But The Direct already has it that she’ll appear in another upcoming MCU property.

Mind you, this is just a rumor at this point, but it makes some sense. According to sources at The Direct, Pugh would reprise her role as Yelena in Hawkeye, a forthcoming Disney+ show all about
Jeremy Renner’s sharp-shooting Clint Barton.

Black Widow is set in the past of the MCU, between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, whereas the Hawkeye show will presumably pick up after the events of Avengers: Endgame, after Clint has his family back and Natasha sacrificed herself to secure the Soul Stone, something Clint tried to do in her place, but she was quicker. Natasha and Clint had a close relationship when she was alive, so bringing in her “sister” could lead to some interesting storylines.

It would also mean that Pugh, a hugely talented young actor on the rise, would become a semi-permanent part of the MCU, something it could need as it goes into a new era, one without either Chris Evans (Captain America) or Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) serving as headliners.

In addition to Hawkeye and (maybe) Yelena, the show will also star Kate Bishop, a younger bow-and-arrow enthusiast who eventually takes over for Hawkeye in the comics. We’re not sure who’s playing her yet, but evidence is mounting that Hailee Steinfeld will take on the role.

It looks like the Hawkeye show will start shooting pretty soon, although don’t expect it out for a while. WandaVisionThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki are all ahead of it in line. We’ll be swimming in Disney+ MCU shows in no time.
