Avatar: Seven Havens has been a fantastic return to the Avatar universe. I feel like it taps into the silly charm from Avatar: The Last Airbender, while setting high stakes in an exciting new story that respects the shows that came before it.

This show has it all so far. Political tension, major lore shakeups, and several mysteries I cannot wait for the series to dive into. Before the credits roll on season 1 this week, here are 10 burning questions Avatar: Seven Havens needs to address.

1. How are there two Avatars?

One of the most groundbreaking aspects about Seven Havens is that Pavi and Nisha are both the Avatar, marking the first time we've ever seen two exist simultaneously. It seems pretty unlikely that this is just a fluke that can happen from time to time. There has to be an explanation, and it probably has something to do with Korra's journey after The Legend of Korra ended.

2. What really happened to Korra?

Speaking of Korra, what the heck happened to her? We know that the people of the Seven Havens despise her and blame her for an event called the Cataclysm. In episode 7, we see a flashback where a middle-aged Korra and Asami Sato cut the ribbon at a Future Industries event. Both characters are wearing betrothal necklaces in this scene, suggesting that their romantic relationship continued to blossom after the final scene in Legend of Korra and the subsequent comic books.

But something went horribly wrong after this. Pavi and Nisha have another vision of Korra destroying a facility in Republic City, which they think caused the cataclysm that destroyed much of civilization. We still don't know why Korra did this or if she knew how much damage it would cause. Hopefully, she thought she was saving the world from something horrible and didn't intend to set humanity back by decades.

3. Can Pavi and Nisha communicate with Korra?

One of the most controversial events in The Legend of Korra is the fact that Korra lost her ability to speak with previous Avatars. This is a huge bummer since characters like Aang, Roku and Kyoshi were no longer available to Korra.

It's unclear what this means for Pavi and Nisha. Since the Avatar cycle was essentially restarted, it would make sense if Pavi and Nisha can could communicate with at least Korra. I hope we find out soon, because Korra is the only one who can truly shed light on the cataclysm and why people have such a biased hatred toward the Avatar.

4. What is the anomaly?

This unknown spirit entity has attacked Ellora three times now, and it has a weird connection to Pavi and Nisha. When they touch the anomaly, Pavi and Nisha can see glimpses of the past. So far, these flashes have shown us Pavi and Nisha's parents and Korra in Republic City.

But the anomaly also spreads paranoia in people it comes into contact with, specifically anti-Avatar paranoia. It also seems to originate from the Future Industries site under Ellora, suggesting that Asami's company was trying to harness spirit energy.

This anomaly is also connected to the Earth Chakra. In Avatar: The Last Airbender, Guru Patik tells Aang that this Chakra deals with survival and is blocked by fear. The anomaly connects with Pavi in episode 9, and she sees six more anomalies that seemingly correspond with the other chakras and havens. This may be how the show handles Pavi and Nisha connecting with the spiritual nature of being the Avatar, and it may lead to them communicating with Korra or unlocking the Avatar state.

5. How did Pavi and Nisha lose their memories?

One of the things I am enjoying the most about Seven Havens is the emotional flashbacks Pavi and Nisha keep getting from before they were separated. It's clear that they both knew they were Avatars before they lost their memories because we see them bending the elements together. Something or someone took those memories from them, but they are slowly unlocking them as the show progresses.

6. What happened to Pavi and Nisha's parents?

All we know is that they were metal workers from the Eastern Outskirts, and their names are Saumya and Pramodh. In the flashbacks, we see them preparing for a long journey, possibly to contact the White Lotus. Whatever happened on the day Pavi and Nisha were separated, Saumya and Pramodh disappeared, and Pavi probably lost her leg.

7. Can Captain Karthik be trusted?

I think a lot of the fandom is in agreement that there is something fishy about Captain Karthik. His explanation for how he found Nisha is very vague. He claimed that he just randomly got a message one day that someone wanted to give him the Avatar, then he rode out into the wasteland and found Nisha unconscious and with amnesia.

Something doesn't add up, and some are speculating that he is a member of the Red Lotus, not the White Lotus. It would make sense since the Red Lotus's main goal was to raise the Avatar from a young age in accordance with its beliefs, which is exactly what Karthik is doing. But these theories have much less weight after the latest batch of episodes, where Karthik and the other members of the White Lotus revealed themselves to protect Nisha. Karthik also opposed the other White Lotus leaders pressuring Nisha, and their plan to relocate her to a new haven.

8. Where do Jae's loyalties lie?

After the fight during the summit, Jae seemingly turned on Karthik and the White Lotus. But this was likely a deception. He stopped short of helping Karthik in the fight after the Commander gave him a look. And when Chancellor Kayoko seemingly ordered Karthik's death, Jae quickly arrested him instead, likely saving his life.

Everything we've seen from Jae until this point suggests that his loyalties are to Pavi and Nisha. I mean, he narrates the opening credits for crying out loud! I think he is lying to the Chancellor to preserve the White Lotus's power in Ellora. The Chancellor even made him the Commander of the Brigade, a powerful position where he can influence Elloran's benders and help keep Pavi and Nisha safe.

9. Where are the other Havens?

The map we are shown in the opening credits is intentionally obscured, but we now have confirmation that some of the major cities during Korra's time eventually morphed into these Havens:

  • Ellora: The main location for Avatar: Seven Havens so far. It seems to be located somewhere in the desert of the Earth Kingdom.
  • New Ba Sing Se: Historians who ride sky bison. Formed from the people of Ba Sing Se, formerly the largest city on the planet.
  • Akasha: People are described as "gearheads" who are the only ones who have figured out how to use old-world technology.
  • Feather Mountain: Ruled by an airbender empress named Yeshe.
  • Republic Forest: Likely formed from the ruins of Republic City. The other havens seem to hate them because they cut themselves off from the rest of the world "ages ago". They did not respond to Kayoka's call for a summit. The Faceless plan to migrate there.

We don't know the names of the other two havens yet, and we don't even 100% know the location of any of them aside from New Ba Sing Se. Some of the likely locations include major population hubs from Korra's time, like the Fire Nation Capitol, the Northern Water Tribe, Zaofu, and Omashu.

10. Where will Pavi and Nisha go?

With Karthik and the White Lotus members imprisoned and Jae probably posing as a double agent, Pavi and Nisha are running short on allies. The people of Ellora are trying to capture Nisha, and we last see her riding into the wasteland on Ruhi. After Pavi enters the spirit world, Geet takes her body and runs away, likely also away from Ellora.

Will they join the Faceless? Agam seems somewhat sympathetic toward Nisha's situation, but a lot of her people are still likely fearful of the Avatar thanks to years of propaganda. Luckily, nobody knows about Pavi's existence yet, so they have that going for them. Maybe they will find their old home and some answers about their parents and childhood.
