Harry Potter fans have two more reasons to look forward to 2027! Bloomsbury Publishing has announced that it will be expanding the Harry Potter book series in the new year via a pair of new additions to the Pocket Potters series, both dropping in March.
Launched in November 2025, the Pocket Potters series is aimed at younger readers and helping to introduce them to the world of Harry Potter. Each book centers around a specific character from the franchise, serving as a guide to the characters filled with illustrations from Natalie Smillie to help make them accessible to young readers while also serving as a fun addition to the broader franchise.
The new books dropping in March will put a focus on some of Harry’s trusted allies, with book 8 serving as a guide to Professor Minerva McGonagall and book 9 telling the story of the Weasley twins, Fred and George.
In Pocket Potters: Professor McGonagall, readers will see everyone’s favorite deputy headmistress take center stage in a guide about Maggie Smith’s beloved Professor McGonagall. The guide will explore various facets of the character, including why she gives Harry Potter a broomstick, the animals she can transform into, and break down what a Hatstall is, among other things, in relation to the character and her journey in the books.
Pocket Potters: Fred and George Weasley, meanwhile, will dive into the Weasley twins with a deep dive into the beloved prankster twins, exploring questions such as can anyone tell the Weasley twins apart, how do they know every secret passage in Hogwarts, and what is Canary Cream?
With HBO’s new Harry Potter series debuting on Christmas Day, there is honestly no better time for the Pocket Potters series to expand. The new HBO series is sure to be an entry point into the wizarding world for a whole new generation, and that younger generation is sure to want to dive deeper into the many amazing characters that inhabit the show. While diving into the original Harry Potter novels might not be the best first step for some younger readers, the Pocket Potters books are a great gateway to the books!
While we’ll have to wait until after Harry Potter season 1 wraps for the Professor McGonagall and Weasley Twins books to arrive, there are several books in the collection already available. The Pocket Potters series launched with books about the Golden Trio, with books 1-3 centering on Harry, Ron, and Hermione. From there, the franchise expanded with books about Luna Lovegood, Professor Dumbledore, Bobby, and Hagrid.
It's hard to predict how well the new Harry Potter series will perform for HBO, but we're certain the show is going to be a big hit for the network. With the new entry to the franchise, it's going to be interesting to see what might be in store for the franchise, but we imagine these new Pocket Potters won't be the only new entries to the franchise coming in 2027 on the publishing front. Bloomsbury Publishing is clearly looking to capitalize on the new series and use it to launch the next two books in the Pocket Potters series, and it's honestly a brilliant plan on their part!
