Producers confirm Asha name change
In an interview with Access Hollywood, Game of Thrones writers and exec producers, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have confirmed an earlier report for us.
It seems Asha will likely have her name changed to avoid confusion with Osha.
David also confirmed reports that producers are working on changing the name of Theon Greyjoy’s sister, who in the books is called Asha.
“We’re a little bit worried about the Osha/Asha sounding too close together,” David said, making a reference to the Season 1 wildling character. “So it might be a slightly different name.”
They also mention again that some stuff from book 3 will find its way into season two.
Fans of the books will remember that a scene in Season 1 – featuring Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley) confronting prisoner Jamie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) about Bran’s fall, actually occurs in George’s second book. David said the moving around of chapters in the actual television version will happen some more.
“A few things from book 3 will be in [Season] 2 actually,” David told Access.
Winter Is Coming: Although I’m not sure a name change is necessary, I am fine if they want to do it. But please don’t change it to Yara. It sounds like the name of an old crone. Plus it is close to Arya. I suggested Ashara as an alternative which could be seen as a nice bit of fan service, assuming Ashara Dayne doesn’t get mentioned in the show, to give her name to another strong female character. What about you guys? Any other name suggestions?
