Game of Thrones casting extras in Navarre, Spain tomorrow
By Dan Selcke
After having been rumored as one of the locations Game of Thrones producers were looking at to cast extras for Season 6, casting agency Modexpor International confirmed the show would indeed be looking at extras from Navarre, Spain, a semi-desert region in the north of the country. The agency made the announcement on its Facebook page, and will be looking at people tomorrow, July 4, starting at 8:00 AM local time.
The casting session will take place in Tudela, the second biggest city in Navarre. Of particular interest is that Tudela is a fairly short distance from the Bardenas Reales Natural Park, a striking area due south Pamplona. It’s not hard to imagine the production team getting some lovely shots out of this scenery.
The production is looking for 1200 extras, 800 men and 400 women, between the ages of 18 and 65. As usual, they want the extras to be in good physical condition, although they’re not looking for body-builders. (It seems like they have to include that caveat a lot—do a lot of bodybuilders show up to these things?) Potential extras should have dark or Mediterranean coloring, and men may need to let their facial hair grow out. Guys must be at least 175 cm (around 5’7”) while women must be at least 170 cm (about 5’5”).
These details, specifically the bit about the coloring, makes it sound like these extras will stand in for the Dothraki horde Dany encountered at the end of Season 5, with the Bardenas Reales Natural Park standing in for Essos. Dorne is another option—we’ll provide you with more details as we get them.
