Game of Thrones casting more babies, setting up battle scene in Northern Ireland

At the moment, most of the Game of Thrones Season 6 filming news is coming out of Girona, as Maisie Williams, Tyrell soldiers, sparrows, and others run around the city filming scenes for next year. Things have been quieter on the Northern Irish front, give or take the blast of news out of Ballintoy Harbour last week, but as Qyburn might say, the work continues.

Case in point: creative services professional Troy Towsey tweeted a picture of fake snow the production has laid down in a field near Saintfield, Northern Ireland, in County Down. According to Mr. Towsey, extras and horses have been spotted in the area, so it’s possible the show is setting up for another snowbound battle scene, or at least a scene involving a group of soldiers.

The show has often used parts of Northern Ireland to stand in for the North, and the presence of fake snow would certainly back that up. Could the extras be the knights of the Vale come to storm Winterfell? Or maybe the Northmen are rising in revolt against the Boltons? Stay tuned.

Also of interest: casting agency ModExpor Internacional has put out yet another casting call for infants to play a part in Game of Thrones Season 6, or at least reissued a previous one. About a month ago, the agency was looking for babies of 9-12 months to be on set in Peñíscola from October 2-6.  It put up similar call very recently, only now it wants babies of 2-3 months to be on set from October 2-7, and it specified that it was looking for “bebes morenos,” or brown-haired babies.

It’s unclear whether the two casting notices for infants in Peñíscola are for the same role—the age difference and slight scheduling change could signal that these are separate babies. In any case, the specification that the infants have brown hair separates this notice from another one that called for a fair-haired baby to film material later in September. That one will very probably be Little Sam. As for this one…well, 2 to 3 months old is practically newborn. I can think of one thing the production could use a newborn baby for…
