Doctor Who With David Bowie and Keith Richards?

[Editor’s Note: It seems that we here at Doctor Who Watch are rather ahead of the curve. Quite a while ago, our very own Leah Tedesco wrote an article about how David Bowie would be a perfect guest star for Doctor Who.]

By this time, we all know of Peter Capaldi’s foray into music in the early 1980’s, where he was the frontman and guitarist for a punk band called the Dreamboys. Paired with Craig Ferguson, who played drums, the Dreamboys were a lot better than Capaldi would have had you believe all these years. Who would have imagined that, three decades later, Capaldi would be starring on Doctor Who?

That love of music has not left Capaldi in the years that followed. He is still a fan of new wave and rock, and in the infamous clip from the Series Nine trailer, will be picking up a guitar once again on the show. Yet, if he has his way, Capaldi would not be the only musician in future episodes of Doctor Who, as he is hopeful that both David Bowie and Keith Richards will be a part of the show at some point.

Music has played an important part in Doctor Who in the past. We have seen musicians such as Foxes make appearances before, and the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular occurred earlier this year. There have been fans of the show that have hoped for a musical episode, and the casting of Bowie and Richards would certainly make that dream closer to a reality.

More from Doctor Who

Bringing in David Bowie and/or Keith Richards may not be that much of a stretch. Bowie has had quite a few theatrical performances, and has 38 acting credits to his name, dating back from 1967. Richards may not have the same acting resume, with only five credits to his name, but he was a part of two Pirates of the Caribbean movies and, as Capaldi so eloquently stated, the idea of Richards “stumbling around the Tardis, knocking out a few chords” is certainly entertaining.

Such wishful thinking on the part of Capaldi is another reminder that he is, at his heart, a fan of the show. All of us have those celebrities whom we would love to see in an episode of Doctor Who, and Capaldi, with his desire to see Bowie and Richards on the TARDIS, does as well.

Hopefully, Peter Capaldi can get his way, and we will see David Bowie and Keith Richards on Doctor Who. It would certainly be an episode to remember.
