There’s a potentially huge Doctor Who story going around tonight and, if it’s true, it could make a lot of fans very, very happy. David Tennant and Catherine Tate are allegedly set to reprise their roles as the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble for a new series of audio adventures from Big Finish.

More from Doctor Who

The story comes from Blogtor Who, who says the scripts are ready and recording will begin when the schedules for Tennant and Tate permit. The new series would be released sometime in 2016.

There’s been no announcement from Big Finish thus far, and Blogtor Who says they refused to comment when contacted. They did post this cryptic message on social media, though:

Despite that possible denial, there’s a good chance this story is actually true.

First of all, Big Finish have clearly reached a deal with the BBC to obtain rights to characters and aliens from the revived series; they’ve been on a roll lately with announcement after announcement containing nuWho characters. There’s the new Torchwood series that began this month, the upcoming UNIT series with Kate Stewart and Osgood, River Song‘s new series (and appearance in an Eighth Doctor audio), the Classic Doctors, New Monsters collection, and the recently announced Jago & Litefoot & Strax.

Second, Blogtor Who (AKA Cameron McEwan) is well-known to the production teams at Doctor Who and Big Finish and is often privy to advance info regarding the franchise (he’s even in the most recent episode of Doctor Who: The Fan Show on YouTube).

Regardless, we won’t know for sure until Big Finish makes it official. It’s possible they’ll move up their announcement now that the cat’s out of the bag, or they may play it cool for another few weeks/months. If true, this would be a major coup for Big Finish. Tennant is consistently ranked as the most popular Doctor among fans, and Donna Noble is well-regarded as one of the best companions.
