Audition video reveals new character, potential new Dothraki plots
Not long ago, we reported on a pair of casting calls for a couple of new roles in Season 6, including one for a non-white 18-to-22 actress to play a “young widow” for two episodes. Now, an audition scene for that character has emerged, shedding some light on the character and potentially dropping some hints about what Daenerys’ Dothraki plot might entail.
The video, which was posted to the A Song of Ice and Fire subreddit, comprises two scenes. In the first one, the off-screen audition partner appears to be introducing the dosh khaleen to someone. We find out some details about the character: that she married a khal at twelve, that she gave birth to a daughter, and that the khal expressed his happiness by “breaking [her] ribs.” (“Too bad he didn’t die sooner.” “Yes… too bad.”) The second scene is mostly exposition—the young member of the dosh khaleen explains her role in Vaes Dothrak (probably for the benefit of show viewers who don’t remember the discussion from the first season) and she in turn asks about Daenerys’ dragons. The end of the scene is confusing, but intriguing, as it seems to hint at a conspiracy within Vaes Dothrak involving Daenerys.
Keep in mind that audition scenes aren’t necessarily actual scenes written for the show. One Redditor, quoting Russian theater-man Constanin Stanislavsky, says “Acting is reacting,” and audition scenes are a perfect way to show that theory in practical terms. As for the actress, Watchers on the Wall identifies her as Leem Lubany, a relatively new actress with a couple of Middle Eastern films to her credit (and Barry Levinson’s upcoming Rock the Kabash, natch). She seems like a good fit for a denizen of Vaes Dothrak, but time will tell if she actually has the part.
