One monster on Doctor Who is going to have a very convincing growl this season, as it’s been revealed that heavy metal singer Corey Taylor has recorded vocals for an upcoming episode.

‘Before the Lake’ is the fourth episode of Series 9 and features a fearsome new character: an alien warlord calling himself “The Fisher King.” BBC News reports that Taylor and his Slipknot bandmates were invited to visit the Doctor Who sets when they toured in Cardiff back in January. Producer Derek Ritchie explains how a set tour turned into a guest role:
"“We needed an awesome roar for the Fisher King. We asked Corey if he might like to do the honours. He was completely up for it. He has one of the most well-known screams in the history of music. We now have the most incredible roar for our incredible monster! He now sounds as terrifying as he looks!”"

He’s not kidding about those looks; the Fisher King is seriously one of the most frightening creatures we’ve seen on Doctor Who. Oddly enough, Taylor is now the third person announced as helping bring him to life. The character is played onscreen by actor Neil Fingleton, who is the tallest man in England. Just last week, the BBC announced that actor/comedian Peter Serafinowicz will provide the Fisher King’s voice.

This is very cool news for Slipknot fans and Whovians alike; Taylor’s famous scream should add an extra layer of terror to already frightening monster. Taylor is just relieved he doesn’t have to keep it a secret anymore:
‘Before the Flood’ is actually the second part of a two-episode story that begins this Saturday with ‘Under the Lake.’ Here’s how Steven moffat described ‘Before the Flood’ to Radio Times:
"“In the eerie remains of a town that never was, something is stalking the Doctor and his friends. A desperate battle for survival is underway, but this time our heroes already know which of them is going to lose. With the past and the future hanging in the balance, the Doctor is breaking the rules to win the day. Can anything stop the Fisher King? And more importantly, who composed Beethoven’s 5th?”"
‘Before the Flood’ with Corey Taylor will air on October 10. For more information on this and other upcoming episodes, check out our frequently updated guide: Doctor Who Series 9: Everything There is to Know So Far.
