Believe it or not, we’re already into the third week of Doctor Who‘s ninth series. In a lot of ways, this week’s episode is the true test of the new series. We knew going into the two-part premiere that we were in for an epic, rollicking adventure — the likes of which are usually reserved for finales, not premieres. Now, it’s essentially “back to business,” as we follow the Doctor and Clara on their next regular adventure (inasmuch as any adventure can be called “regular” on Doctor Who).
With nearly every story comprised of two-parters this year, the premiere was also sort of a primer for what we should expect going forward. (In case you missed them, be sure to check out our episode recap and reviews for ‘The Magician’s Apprentice,’ and our recap/reviews for last week’s ‘The Witch’s Familiar,’ as well.)

Here’s the official synopsis for this week’s episode, ‘Under the Lake’:
"When an underwater base comes under attack, the Doctor and Clara must save the frightened crew and defeat an impossible threat. But what is behind these terrifying events? And can they really be haunted by ghosts?"
Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman, and Steven Moffat offer an introduction to the new episode in this special video:
