Game of Thrones Prepping to Roll in Almería, While Filming in Saintfield Continues

With only a couple more days left to film in Peñíscola, it’s time to turn our attention to the final Spanish location where Game of Thrones will be filming for Season 6: the city of Almería. This large area includes several specific locations where the show will be spending time, starting on Saturday, October 10th. With only a couple of days to go before then, the finishing touches on the first location, in El Chorrillo Sierra Alhamilla, are being made.

(Translates to “And rolling!”)

With filming in Almería nearly here, we should point out (because I’m going to every chance I get) that this means that shooting in Saintfield, Northern Ireland has already outlast no less than four filming locations on the Spanish schedule, and may well outlast a fifth when filming in Peñíscola wraps up in a few days.

(Still going strong yesterday! Saintfield is like the energizer bunny of Game of Thrones filming.)

Back in Almería:

(Translates to: “The first morning fully decorated for Game of Thrones.”)

It’s good to see this set finally completed. Workers have been slowly constructing this village (which we are currently assuming is Dothraki) since mid August.

(Translates to: “Just five days to go before filming starts on Game of Thrones in Almeria.”)

I’d love to see what’s painted on the right side of those flats. Wouldn’t you? Though knowing how CGI-heavy the show is, it’s probably a green screen.

We’re still waiting on word for filming in some of the areas in Almería. The Tabernas Desert and Sorbas were originally announced as part of the schedule, but we still don’t have dates for filming, and there’ve been no posts about pre-shooting activity, either. Perhaps once filming in Peñíscola (Meereen) wraps up, we’ll get more information.
