Game of Thrones Doing Last-Minute Extra Casting In Almería (UPDATE: Additions to the Riverrun set)

facebooktwitterreddit

With the Game of Thrones crew rolling out of Peñíscola (Meereen), things are gearing up in Almería (the Dothraki Sea, and maybe some other places). But it seems like it’s not all smooth sailing for the show’s final Spanish filming destination. La Voz De Almería reported today that Modexpor Internacional, the company that does casting for the show in Spain, has posted a last-minute casting notices for extras.

In pertinent part, this roughly translates to:

For shooting GoT in Almeria

Thank you very much

This post went up yesterday and set a deadline for tomorrow at 8pm, which is a quick turnaround. This notice is almost certainly looking for extras to film scenes in El Chorrillo Sierra Alhamilla, the first area the show will be visiting in Almería—the production will be there on the 10th. Note that Modexpor specifically said that it doesn’t want to see anyone who’s already applied, so it’s clearly looking for something very specific that it hasn’t seen before. Could it be for a certain role? “Men with long hair” could be Dothraki (we’re assuming that El Chorrillo Sierra Alhamilla is a Dothraki set, based on the pictures we’ve seen.) Perhaps there’s a specific extra the show is looking for to interact with Dany?

UPDATE:

Elsewhere in the world, the production continues to prepare to film scenes in Corbet, Northern Ireland. Odds are that this area will stand in for Riverrun, the ancestral seat of House Tully, if the riverside castle and the red Lannister tents are any indication. Now, Irish Thrones is reporting that a new, eerie piece of scenery has been added.

The presence of a gallows at Riverrun suggests that the show will adapt a certain plotline from A Feast for Crows. (Anyone who wants to avoid spoilers should turn back now.)

In that book, the Lannisters and Freys besiege Riverrun, which is still being held by Brynden “Blackfish” Tully. The Freys are holding Edmure Tully, Catelyn’s brother, hostage. To try and intimidate the Blackfish into surrendering the castle, Ser Ryman Frey constructs a gallows and threatens to hang Edmure. It’s an empty gesture, however, as Edmure is too valuable a hostage to sacrifice, and the Blackfish knows it.

We haven’t seen Edmure Tully, pictured above, since Season 3. Does the presence of a gallows at the Riverrun set indicate that he may return?

YET ANOTHER UPDATE:

Watchers on the Wall has a couple more images of the Riverrun set. These were taken on October 6th, a day before Irish Thrones tweeted about the gallows. Here, you can see a structure going up in the center of the picture that could be on its way to becoming a gallows.

And here’s another shot of of the encampment outside Riverrun. The crimson tents are obviously for the Lannisters, and I’m coming around to the idea that the brown tents could be for the Freys.
