Illustrator turns Game of Thrones art into beautiful GIFs

Illustrator/designer Terence Eduarte has beautifully rendered iconic characters from George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones and animated them in some very neat GIFs.

Terence’s artful GIF’s start with Jon Snow and Ghost, in a piece he calls The Bastard of Winterfell.

His next piece depicts Cersei engaged in her favorite pastime: drinking a glass of wine. This one’s called The Lady of Casterly Rock.

His final piece is of Daenerys Targaryen. It is entitled—what else?—The Mother of Dragons.

I think what draws me to Terence’s artwork is that his characters have no facial features, which allows book readers like me to fill in that area with features that match how George R.R. Martin described them in the books. The art is also beautiful in its simplicity. There is no chaos in these frames to clutter the mind. Take The Mother of Dragons above—Daenerys is in a simple blue dress with the blowing sands and dunes of the red wastes behind her. It’s striking in its simplicity, and then a smaller Drogon swoops down to remind us that she is in fact the Mother of Dragons.

According to Bēhance:

"Terence, a graduate of Fine Arts in UST, is an Illustrator and Art Director for Design in TBWA/SMP. With a strong relish for shapes, gritty textures and vector-based graphics, his illustrations are often inspired by the clamour of the bustling city in which he resides."

So far these three are the only Game of Thrones inspired art-GIFs Terence has up on his site, but hopefully we will see some more in the future. You can see the rest of his work by visiting his Bēhance profile.
