Ukrainian Graphic Artist turns to Game of Thrones for Inspiration during Elections

The United States isn’t the only country currently in election season. And while we here in the U.S. are dealing with the usual rigmarole of presidential debates, Ukraine is going through a completely different process, one that seems to involve more pop cultural figures than usual. First, we noticed that Emperor Palpatine, from Star Wars, was elected to a City Council Seat position in Odessa…yes, really… and then Chewbacca was arrested for driving Darth Vader to the local elections…again, yes really.

Well, it seems that Star Wars isn’t the only series that the people of Ukraine have turned to for inspiration during election season. A graphic artist named Denis Gritsfeldt has made his own election posters using Game of Thrones characters for the various platforms. Here’s what Gritsfeldt had to say about his parody posters:

"One should think carefully before making their choice, because the person behind the name on the voting-paper may be one more Joffrey or, on the contrary, Jon Snow."

Party: Monarchist-Democratic Union. Slogan: Get rid of waste, punish the guilty.

Honestly, I really like this idea, and wish someone here in the states would take up the cause and make their own Game of Thrones inspired election posters…I might even be inclined to vote for them. Instead of telling me how you plan on reducing the national debt, how about you do something about getting heat in every home?

Party: The Block of the Like-Minded. Slogan: Heating in every home.

Or hey, maybe bolster our military presence?

Party: Close-Knit Community of Seven Kingdoms. Slogan: Contractual army!

You know who else any serious presidential candidate has to talk about? The children! They’re our future, after all. Although I’m not sure “All Men Must Die” is the slogan you want to run on if you’re trying to use children in your campaign.

Party: Association of Children for the Future. Slogan: “Valar morghulis”

And finally there are the White Walkers, official party of the apocalypse.

Party: Common People Movement. Slogan: 8,000 years of stability.

There are loads more posters you can see from the artist himself on his Facebook page, and I highly suggest you go have a peek, because they are quite good.

Incidentally, the slogan on the Tyrion poster is “Closed several brothels,” which doesn’t make much sense. Tyrion belongs to the Big Business Political Group.
