Doctor Who Legends Finish Third in Trivia Contest

You would think that Peter Capaldi, Steve Moffat and Mark Gatiss would know more about Doctor Who than anyone else. You would also be wrong.

When it comes to Doctor Who, Capaldi, Gatiss and Moffat are easily amongst the biggest names in the current incarnation of the show. With their lifelong fandom, and intimate ties to the show, one would imagine that their wealth of knowledge would be quite extensive indeed. So, when the Three Amigos of Doctor Who entered a pub quiz about the show, one would imagine that the title should just have been handed over to the trio.

As it turns out, that thought was wrong. The group, who went by the name The Time Wasters, ended up placing third in the contest, foiled when they forgot the number that was on the envelope possessed by River Song during The Impossible Astronaut. Considering that Moffat himself wrote that episode, such a lapse of knowledge is unthinkable.

Now, instead of cementing their places as the most knowledgeable beings of all things in the Whoniverse, Capaldi, Gatiss and Moffat are now subject to mocking cheers with their third place finish. When Moffat says that he alone knows what is best for fans of Doctor Who, it will be fair to ask him what he bases that on, as his knowledge has been found lacking.

More from Doctor Who

While it is certainly excellent to have the bragging rights of being the groups that managed to defeat The Time Wasters in Doctor Who trivia, that also brings up a few questions. One question that must be asked specifically is what, exactly, are these people doing with their lives? At least Capaldi, Gatiss and Moffat have been able to turn their knowledge into a career about their passion.

Let’s take a moment. We here at Doctor Who Watch are very concerned. Personally speaking, I have that sort of encyclopaedic knowledge of baseball. I’m particularly fascinated by the 1884 season, and all the strange little quirks that year had. However, as I also write on the baseball side, I’ve managed to turn that knowledge into a little bit of a niche.

Hopefully, these people are able to do the same with that knowledge. Maybe they are looking to work on the show at some point, or are writing about Doctor Who. That sort of expertise should not go to waste. Otherwise, if neither is happening, perhaps we could tempt you into writing for us here?

Peter Capaldi, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat truly know a lot about Doctor Who. On this day, however, their knowledge was only third rate.
