Doctor Who: Will Peter Jackson Come to the Whoniverse?

Peter Jackson is a Whovian and seems to be a fan of Sylvester McCoy. Yet, the director of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy has not been a part of Doctor Who. At least, not yet.

Seemingly every actor, writer or director that has been successful, and enjoyed Doctor Who growing up, as been a part of the show. David Tennant and Peter Capaldi were both fanboys who got to live their dreams of being the Doctor. Neil Gaiman has written episodes of the show. Steven Moffat has done virtually everything and is the current showrunner. Those who grew up as fans of the show have had a major part in the current success of Doctor Who.

Yet, there is one Whovian who, despite the ongoing speculation and rumors, has yet to make his debut on the show. Peter Jackson, a self professed Whovian and the person who owns Sylvester McCoy’s costume from his role as the Seventh Doctor, has not yet directed an episode of Doctor Who.

However, there is hope that this will be changing, and soon. Jackson posted an entertaining little video on his official Facebook page, where he and his daughter are discussing the barrage of e-mails he has received from Moffat. After a few seconds, Capaldi himself appears as the Doctor, seeming paranoid and confused. He handed Jackson an envelope that contained a document that he claimed needed to be signed immediately, but before the Doctor could secure Jackson’s signature, he is confronted by a Dalek and flees the area.

More from Doctor Who

What does this little video mean? Aside from the fact that even Jackson’s home is not a safe haven from the Dalek menace, there are really two thoughts. Is he just having a bit of fun with the various rumors that he will eventually be directing an episode of Doctor Who, or is this his way of announcing that he will make his long awaited debut on the show in the near future?

Of course, there would be a matter of Jackson finding the time to direct an episode. Even though the Hobbit trilogy has finished, it is thought that Jackson could end up continuing to create films in Middle Earth. With such a vast universe to explore, the stories that could be filmed would seemingly be endless, even if Tolkien did not put everything to paper.

Then there is the fact that the Daleks know where Jackson lives. Since he had a meeting with the Doctor, even if he did not realize it, the Daleks may consider him an enemy now. Hopefully, he can take precautions and avoid being exterminated prior to being able to direct an episode of Doctor Who.
