John Barrowman Watch, December 2015

John Barrowman is a very busy man.

As with most Whovians, we at Doctor Who Watch love to keep tabs on what is going on in the careers of the alumni of Doctor Who and spinoffs. One of our favorite people to follow is the dynamic John Barrowman.

On Wednesday, December second, 2015, John Barrowman did one of his popular live Facebook broadcasts, updating his fans on what is going on in his career. You can watch it here. Subsequent updates can be found herehere, and here. Some of the announcements are rather vague, but exciting nonetheless. He admitted to being a big tease, but for legal reasons, of course. For those of you who do not have the time or are not inclined to wade through all of his posts (you’ll be missing out on some entertaining stuff), the following is a summary of what he had to say:

  • Barrowman and his sister have been working for about a year on an as of yet undetermined project in cooperation with DC Comics and Arrow. From what he implies, it sounds as if major production will begin on this project in January. The big question, of course, is what will it be — a spinoff, audio dramas, a comic? Only time will tell.
  • Barrowman has professed his fondness for action figures, including ones of himself. His second vague announcement was regarding “something else coming out… and it’s not [him] out of the closet.” Indeed, that is ancient news. Anyway, we can deduce that a new action figure or figures, presumably of him, will be released. We also learned that it or they will be available for sale the beginning of January. The franchise of the action figures is still a secret, but pre-launch pictures have been promised. They will be posted on his Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • For fans of Barrowman’s radio show on Magic FM (also available internationally on various apps), the third announcement is, sadly, that it will be ending after his Christmas special. His decision to end the show was due to new executives being hired who have a different vision for the station’s format. They want him to be a DJ, but he wants to continue doing something more personal with stories and music that appeal specifically to his fans. He is hoping to get involved with radio again at some point going forward. Email him at john.barrowman@magic.co.uk to submit your holiday requests and stories.
  • More from Doctor Who

“Now, here is the big one!” Barrowman knows how much his fans love to hear him sing. His goal is to do a concert tour in the United States, but he needs our help. He has had a meeting with the U.S. division of his agency. They do not think, despite his touring success in the United Kingdom, that there will be enough demand for such a tour in the U.S. due to local promoters not knowing that he has a music career. This is where we, the fans, come in. Email him at

if you would like to see him perform in the following cities: New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and Orlando (the last stated in the

, but not posted in the

    text

version of the list). Put the city in the subject line, and then your name, email address, and optional other contact info in the body. Please note, this email address is for gathering demographic and contact information only,

. “Your information will only be used to inform you when a venue has been chosen in your stated city. This is not a means of you getting your tickets before anyone else.”

  • Miscellaneous answers to fan questions: He just recorded another audio episode for Torchwood. Don’t suggest post-convention concerts because they are apparently considered by convention promoters to be too expensive to produce and don’t make enough money unless you are an A-list act. He just did a U.K. concert tour, so he’s going to focus his efforts for the time being on trying to do one in the U.S. There are no Broadway shows planned, but he has been in talks regarding a theatre production. The cities for the concert tour were chosen according to where he has a strong fan base. Don’t ask about other cities because they are not doable at the moment. There are no upcoming films. His filming for Arrow begins again on Friday. He loved the recent Flash/Arrow crossover, but a Doctor Who/Arrow crossover will never happen because they are too different. There are no plans for him to come to Brazil in December because he is too busy filming.
