Doctor Who Has an Online Advent Calendar

There are advent calendars for virtually everything now. So, why not have an online one for Doctor Who?

These days, as we count down the days to the holidays, there are advent calendars virtually everywhere. There are advent calendars with whiskey, chocolates and little toys for children. It is a fun way to count down the days until Christmas, and these advent calendars are the gift that keeps on giving (especially if there was one with bottles of craft beer. If those exist, please get me one).

In a way, it should be no surprise that the BBC created a Doctor Who advent calendar of their own. Given their ongoing Christmas specials and the historical ties to the season, such an item would seemingly be at the top of their list. As it happens, the Doctor Who Adventure Calendar is everything for which a Doctor Who fan could hope.

This advent calendar is a unique treasure trove for any Whovian. There, we can see such fun little clips as Rufus Hound stating his desire to have his own action figure. Peter Capaldi lists the monsters from classic Doctor Who that he wants to see return. There are outtakes, quizzes and other assorted fun items that any fan can enjoy.

More from Doctor Who

It is just another way that Doctor Who can keep on giving to the fans. By providing these little insights into the actors and behind the scenes of Series Nine, it is the perfect gift for any fan of the show. By having it online, letting virtually all of the fanbase have this access daily, it helps to expand the appeal of Doctor Who through a broader outreach.

This is also a brilliant way to keep bringing people back to the BBC website. While fans will want to see the new treat as we count down to the holidays, it may lead to more interest in other shows or projects from the BBC. Something may catch the attention of someone that would never have known of the other program’s existence otherwise.

Every day is a new day, and for the next week and a half, that means a new gift from the BBC and Doctor Who. I’m looking forward to seeing what else is in store.
