Filming Leftovers: Shots Surface from October Filming in Ireland

The Game of Thrones Season 6 wrap party happened last weekend, but shooting on Season 6 only wrapped up last night. But that doesn’t mean we’re done seeing pictures from the sets. With the excitement ramping up, and cast members already starting to hype the new season in interviews, it’s not surprising that we have a few extra shots from earlier days now hitting the web.

One of the major parts of filming this season was the two months the production spent in Saintfield, shooting a major battle scene. This was a shoot that required hundreds and hundreds of extras, 500-600 according to the following tweet from freelance chef Ian McColm. It seems he was responsible for feeding the extras during the filming at Saintfield.

(That last bit is the date, being October 7th, not that this is tweet seven of ten.)

McColm apparently did catering for the show more than once, and in more than one location. Another set that involved large amounts of extras was the one in Banbridge, where the Tully castle of Riverrun was set up. This is also where all the Lannister and Frey tents were arrayed. Except one picture isn’t of those tent laden scenes. Instead…

Yes, that first shot would be of a ship. Not all that surprising, considering that the Tully homestead is set along a large river. It looks like a close-up of the boat pictured in this overhead shot of the Riverrun set at Banbridge. Look in the lower right-hand corner, in front of the green screen.

What exactly the crew has been filming aboard he boat is up for debate. (There is only one boat, and it has stood in for every ship set from the ships used in Season 2’s Battle of the Blackwater to the boat Arya left Westeros on at the end of Season 4.) Given that the Tully homestead is situated alongside a prominent river, the boat could belong to the Tully family, although it also be involved in the Greyjoy family storyline.
