Doctor Who alumni Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter’s production company Bad Wolf will produce a television adaptation of the novel A Discovery of Witches.
It is always exciting when big new breaks about Doctor Who alumni. For example, John Barrowman recently announced that he has written a new series that he is optimistic will get picked up. He has not yet given any specifics about the show, but, knowing Barrowman, it is sure to be fantastic. We eagerly await any more information about this project.

Barrowman is not, however, the only one from the Doctor Who family who is developing new projects. Former executive producer of Doctor Who, Torchwood, and The Sarah Jane Adventures, Julie Gardner and former BBC Head of Drama and Torchwood executive producer Jane Tranter have founded the production group Bad Wolf. According to a Deadline exclusive report, the group is currently working on a television adaptation of A Discovery of Witches.
"Deborah Harkness’ historical fantasy novel, A Discovery Of Witches, is the first installment in the All Souls Trilogy which has sold more than 3.5M copies around the world. I’ve learned that Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner’s UK/U.S. Bad Wolf production shingle has acquired TV rights and is developing a drama based on the book with a view to adapting all three in the series. Life On Mars’ Ashley Pharoah is adapting the novel for the screen while Harkness will also pen several episodes."
In addition to the awesome Doctor Who reference in naming the production company Bad Wolf, the coincidental name of “Harkness” is highly amusing.
A Discovery of Witches is not the only slated Bad Wolf project. According to a Variety article from November 3rd:
"The BBC’s flagship channel, BBC One, has commissioned an initial eight-part series based on Philip Pullman’s epic fantasy novel in three parts, “His Dark Materials,” from Bad Wolf and New Line Cinema, which will be produced in Wales."
In a related November 3rd Variety article, they report that:
"Variety can also exclusively reveal that the company is developing an adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s trilogy “The Warlord Chronicles,” which is a revisionist take on the King Arthur legend."
