Kristian Nairn, best known for playing Hodor the mono-syllabic Stark family retainer on Game of Thrones, really knows how to make the best of his situation. Nairn was already working as a DJ before getting cast on Thrones, but after the show gained traction, he made cunning use of his newfound fame by starting Rave of Thrones, a GoT-themed show he’s been touring with for around two years. Nairn is a talented DJ—he dropped his first dance single a while back—but by mashing together his day and night jobs, he got himself a lot more exposure.
Nairn will next be bringing Rave of Thrones to the Bankside Vaults in London, the show’s first visit to the U.K. Nairn will officiate an evening of house music. Joining him will be Finn “Loras Tyrell” Jones, whose “skills on the decks” are held in high regard, according to the write-up on the Rave of Thrones website.
The website lays on the Game of Thrones references pretty thick, another example of Nairn’s good business sense. This sounds like an event worth attending.
"The White Walkers and their army of the dead descend upon Westeros, with little time before the impending apocalypse reaches King’s Landing. To that end, the Small Council has decided to throw a huge party for the citizens, allowing them to celebrate their last few days before doom in true Baratheon style. The Master Of Coin has decreed that the the party, dubbed the ‘Rave Of Thrones’, should be a fully immersive experience, turning the cavernous tunnels under London Bridge into the Seven Kingdoms themselves, resplendent with Dothraki warriors, citizens of Dorne, the Unsullied and, of course, Kahleesi’s fire breathing pets, not to mention 3D mapped visuals, pyrotechnics and a light show to rival a castle siege. Littlefinger’s Brothel, the Icy North and other famous landmarks of Westeros will be recreated in an old train depot on the banks of the River Thames itself."
The website also promises some “special guests.” Considering that many of the Game of Thrones cast members live in or near the U.K. and can easily make their way to London, that could refer to just about anybody.
With its arched ceilings and stone walls, the Bankside Vaults seems like a great venue for the rave. The place already looks a little like the pit where Daenerys stores her dragons, so the mood is set immediately. Dim the lights, add some smoke, and bring in costumed dancers, and you’ve got everything you need.
