5. Joffrey Baratheon

The kid we all loved to hate. He too recites a line from an earlier trailer: “Everyone is mine to torment.” His placement here is a little odd, no? I suppose if we’re somehow trying to make logical sense of all this, his was the “big” death from Season 4. In fact, if we think this through, we have the “Big Deaths” from over the years in order here. Ned’s death was first. There was no major death in Season 2, but Season 3 made up for that with the two-fer of Robb and Catelyn. Joffrey was the big name to go in Season 4…but then again, Tywin and Oberyn were no slouches, and there’s no sign of them at all.

But that’s the only explanation I can think of for having him here, because otherwise he’s really out of place in a line up that is nothing but….

6. Jon Snow

….Starks. Yeah, you heard me, I called him a Stark. You know he’s a Stark. I know he’s a Stark. Face it, everyone but Catelyn Tully and Robert Baratheon was smart enough to know Jon Snow was a Stark through and through. Some of them were even smart enough to figure out who his father was while they were at it.

Now, of course, after the promotional deluge on Thursday, it was obvious that HBO was withholding any sightings of Jon Snow. So fans were hoping he would be included in the teaser. Oh, they included him all right: in the line-up of the dead. This is just more in your face propaganda that insists that Jon Snow Is Dead.

And fine, I believe them. I’m actually on-record as believing them since the season finale last year. Unlike the novel, where Jon Snow merely passes out, with no evidence that he didn’t warg off into Ghost, or would find himself waking back up, the show made sure to draw that line of demarcation in big bright letters. Jon Snow Is Dead. He dies here.

Now, as to his chances of resurrection…let’s just say that Melisandre heading back to The Wall, of all places, when she abandons Stannis to his fate, doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense unless she needs to be there for a specific plot purpose…
