Doctor Who From A Feline Perspective

Doctor Who has had quite a few cat creatures in its history, with the Catkind, Cheetah People, Kitlings and others having appeared on the show. Cats themselves are an alien race in the Whoniverse, at least according to the Tenth Doctor. But what would a cat think of these creatures and the show? Let’s find out.

Greetings. I am Dave and Leah’s cat Gary. As I am forced to sit here and watch Doctor Who with them, I figure that I am as qualified as they are to contribute to the discussion of the show. Also, as the internet was created for cat videos, I may as well become the first feline blogger. Incidentally, I will work for tuna, catnip and treats.

At any rate, I wanted to speak out on behalf of all felinity in regards to the role of felines, and their future incarnations, on Doctor Who. Quite frankly, we are an under-represented demographic on the show. With an estimated 600 million cats on the planet, we are quite the sizeable group. And, let us not forget, one of the more enlightened civilizations in the history of your pathetic species, the Egyptians, worshipped us as the deities we are.

More from Doctor Who

First, allow me to clear up a misconception. Regardless of what the Tenth Doctor may think, cats will not go extinct by the year 2157. If cats did not exist, what else would people watch on YouTube instead of toiling away at their menial jobs to purchase food and treats for us? We are also quite the resilient species, and while your kind panics if the pizza delivery fellow is a minute or two late, we can catch and dine on tasty mice and birds. Yum!

Second, it has been far too long since we have seen a cat featured on Doctor Who. We conversed with the Eleventh Doctor, but that episode aired almost six years ago. Six years! That is a full forty percent of the average lifespan of a housecat! It would be as though humans did not appear on the show for almost thirty years.

It has been even longer since we saw any of the anthropomorphic felines. In fact, the Catkind have not been seen on the television since 2007 during the episode Gridlock. This is a lifetime for some cats! At least let us see our evolutionary future if we are forced to watch this program with our human minions.

In short, Doctor Who needs more cats and fewer humans. As much as I would love to carry on the Feline Revolution, it is time for my daily intake of ‘nip and a nice long nap.
